... Atlantic. Lots of smallish waves roll in - not in sets like in Perth but just one wave after another. They weren't good enough to body surf but that didn't stop us from trying.
Friday sees us travelling by train to Faro then changing to the express to Lisbon to our apartment. And then a whole new adventure will start.
We trust all are well back in Perth.
... s centre streets are cobbled, narrow and one-way. We´ve spent Sunday afternoon & evening and Monday just walking around the town, exploring and soaking up the atmosphere. Lots of coffees, pastries and beer. Food and drink is really cheap (expresso $1.10, beers are about $2.20 for a stubby).
We´ve been practising our very limited Portugese - I think we can say about 3 expressions so far! Locals seem to find our efforts amusing! :-)

... while my weight has almost certainly fallen, although by how much I have no idea (only that I have to go and buy a belt to keep my trousers up and my shirt looks more like a smock!) I had always known that I liked mountains but this trip has given me a chance to see them from a new perspective. And contrary to my children's belief that once you've seen one mountain you've seen them all, I think each is quite unique and beautiful. I love them and on this ...
Vila Real de Santo Antonio, Portugal jamie_pete... corner to the recommended Bar Whitney where I ate four large plates of delicious tapas - yumyum! Later I strolled into the city centre to find the tourism office and an internet café and had to smile when I saw a number of firefighters (bomberos) demonstrating about cuts in manning levels - problems the same the world over! After a couple of hours updating the blog I took an evening walk through this sophisticated town ...
Huelva, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands jamie_pete... hours to kill for the bus, walked around the market, watched a scrimmage soccer game, walking past a bar i came across a birthday party where i was literally pulled in... friendly people, free food, a warm place to wait for the bus... DEPARTED to Lisbon

... be ***** so i headed straight down soth to the algarve. i stayed in tavira which is one of the nicest looking towns along that coast. really bonny seaside town which im sure wud be lovely in the summer but it was a bit bleak this time of year. i managed to get a good meal and a cheap as **** bottle of wine so i had a nice evenin.
Tavira, Portugal jordanblair100... spa, sunscreen, lots of beachtime, walking, reading tons, sunburn, beer, cardgames, host family time. The best part was it was totally undeserved. This is the kind of trip you take after a terrible semester, not after an easy first week of spanish class. I've given in to the guilt I was feeling about not deserving any of this experience, and have decided to enjoy every moment. It's great. Well, that's all I have for now. Keep me posted, everyone! Megan
Puente Umbril, Spain mwalsh86... some people selling raffle tickets, and was dancing to a drummer which I've never seen a horse do before! The horses around here also seem to have a well trained ability to move sideways - essential if you have stopped outside a bar and want to get closer to the railing or window so that you can order your drink. I had an entertaining time trying to get some hot water ...
