After a good nights sleep we put our felucca experience behind us and thought we would give Egypt another chance. Shona's memories of her previous trip to Egypt were of amazing wonders and fantastic experiences, all she wants is for Egypt to return to that place.
We set off today in search of the treasures in the valley of the kings, we put a little group together for this excursion, as the more people the cheaper the trip.
Before our day trip we needed to buy our ticket for the n...
Record sunscreen use ensues. Sorry for the delay in updates, Egypt internet cafes are somewhat expensive. Aqaba was unremarkable in my opinion, apart from the Quizno's (based in Colorado). Actually, I got there during Eid, the feast that marks the end of Ramadan. I knew of Ramadan, which provided only minor difficulties during travel, but somehow was unaware of the holiday after. Anyways, every hotel was completely full in this seaside town, so I got to spend the night on a roof at an exhorbi...
Luxor, Egypt homersimHello, hello from Luxor! This is going to be a quick bit of travel love, but I will try to write more tomorrow when we are back in Cairo for the day. Right now we are in Luxor, famed city of tombs and temples. We arrived here yesterday after taking an overnight trip on a felucca from Aswan down the Nile (meaning north). A felucca is an ancient type of sailboat. To spend a night on a felucca was an experience that Kaycee and I could not miss out on. We spent Friday morning in Aswan visiting El...
Luxor, Nile River Valley, Egypt katertot1978Our trip on our 2nd flight went well it was 10hrs. We were met by a very friendly guy who looked after us with baggage and visas. When we got outside we were handed off to Maoward who is the guy who is looking after us in checking us in and getting us to the tour guides. He usually looks after Chinese tourists but I think with the Olympics there isn't many around. We found out that we are the only two on the Cairopart of the trip and when we go to Luxor we get passed onto someone else. The tr...

... towering papyrus shaped stone pillars. It symbolises a papyrus swamp. The pillars are huge and the decoration is amazing. We spent a bit of time here marvelling at the wonder. We then came across the obelisk of Tuthmosis I which is 22m high. Further on there is an Obelisk built
by Queen Hatshepsut between 1473-1458BC to the glory of her “father” Amun and a second one (only the upper shaft) is lying near the sacred lake. The Obelisk of Hatshepsut ...
... be just like kissing...he sounded like a great guy... She had the whole table in stitches though when she told us quite innocently how a guy in Kenya had offered to take her for coffee. She replied that she didn't want to have coffee because it would keep her up all night. The guy didn't miss a beat, "But it's sleepy coffee!" I'm not sure whether or not she ran away very fast...but she probably should have.
We went to an internet cafe after dinner to upload ...
... to this effect, which has been met with extreme gratitude. Well, enough about that. We left Aswan via a cruiseship which plies the Nile between Aswan and Luxor. This 3 night trip takes you past farms along the fertile Nile valley, the dunes of raw desert, punctuated with lush vegetation in places. Going downstream , we are being helped by the current. Cruising this way is very popular and our fellow 100 passengers represented Europe and Asia, making for an interesting mix ...
Luxor, Nile River Valley, Egypt liliens... to the God Horus and so there were huge statues of Hawk's everywhere. Our favourite part of this temple was the Nile meter, it measured the rise and fall of the Nile. Back on the boat we had breakfast before heading back to the top deck for a bit more swimming and lounging. The rest of the day was filled with this typical cruise behaviour of eating and sitting about. That evening we were treated to some traditional Egyptian dancing with some belly ...
Luxor, Nile River Valley, Egypt chris.cesca... were dd cheap about 4 ponds from a eatery on the streets and sat and eat them opposite the Luxor temple which is quite nice but there is no point paying for it as you get to see all of it from the street anyway. I am off to Dahab tonight, I have seen some pics of it from my mate and it looks like there is no beach there so I am planning to get a connecting bus on to Nuweib before heading off on the ferry to Jordan prob on Sunday fingers crossed!
Luxor, Nile River Valley, Egypt richardcowley... all boiling hot inside as well so it was always a relief to get out into the shade. I tried to stay in each tomb as long as possible and to take in as much as I could - I wish I could film inside them! We met back with our guide and caught the stupid little trolley car thing back to the visitors centre. We finished at the valley and then headed off for the temple of Hatshepsut. I didn't really want to go back to Hatshepsut because I had only been here two weeks ...
