... br> Kalimpong is small and more chaotic than Gangtok or Darjeeling and tightly packed traffic infested streets lead off in all directions. Buildings 4 or 5 storeys tall house retail outlets, stalls, fish mongers, butchers and such like. It was your typical Indian town with a busy bustling centre.

... and it we had a nice day to check out the central market area of town. We grabbed some lunch overlooking a fountain and then packed up to leave to Siliguri back in West Bengal. From there we hoped to get lucky and catch a train going west that night so we could start making our way to Varanasi - the holiest of Hindu holy cities.

... so cold in my life it was like ice cubes all over your body and I think it nearly stopped the blokes heart as he went in first he was navy as he was hauled back into the raft. Before we knew it our very enjoyable few days were at an end and we had tears from George when it was time to leave, he was truly distraught that he had to leave all his pets!!! After the trauma of the shared Jeep we had arranged a taxi and headed for Darjeeling.
