... motorway for most of the next 5 hours. We amuse ourselves with our holiday sayings using our newly learnt American accents and video of my perfect driving to pumping audio from my iPhone (well you've gotta do something to pass the time). All of a sudden Sarah takes us off on a scenic route through a conservation/wildlife area where we espy an atomic-looking plume of smoke(?) from behind the hills over yonder - what can it be? We never find ...
... so that was good.
We were able to check in upon arrival which was great - since it was only around noon. We dropped off our bags and hit the ground running! With a beautiful sunny day and temperatures around 18 degrees, we explored around the Fisherman’s Wharf area. Of course, Mom found a few stores and helped out the San Francisco local economy…and it’s only Day 1. Haha. ...
... it out of Styrofoam cups we made it through.
Hours later, we were third in line to board the plane (with assigned seats mind you) but when they opened the doors to the tarmac apparently local custom is if you do not run, trample people and elbow your way to the plane and your seat in less than 30 seconds I don't know maybe you were left behind, well maybe if that was the penalty that was incentive enough. It made the cattle call days ...

We were surprised the cable car actually made it up Hyde Street. But there was no way it would be going down the crooked part of Lombard St! We watched several cars navigate the switchbacks carefully without causing any damage, and then stood and watched the hilarious tourists as they did anything possible to get the perfect photo. This included standing in the middle of the intersection at the bottom of the road, regardless of the oncoming traffic. Ahh ...
