After a quick lunch back at the hotel we popped down to Balmy Alley in the Mission District that is home to a concentrated collection of murals. They began in the 80s and today portray issues such as human rights issues and local gentrification.

... in the USA. The USA has a massive private prison system which I got the feeling was a good money spinner - may contribute to the high prison numbers. Up until the mid 1970's, the prison rate was almost constant from the beginning of the 1900's but since then has exploded. There was no explanation why. I can't help but wonder drugs? family breakdown? private prisons? ..................
Anyway, it was a fascinating visit.
