Day 1: It is a long drive getting to Chicago. Again, what should have been a fairly easy ride up the good ole I55 North did not pan out the way we wanted. As we get closer to Chicago we see a sign saying there are major delays and to take an alternate route. We started to do that but saw that the traffic was free flowing so jumped back on the freeway. ... after filming in the morning with the London crew; my family and I will spend some quality family time before my Mom and I have to depart for our trip! Our flight leaves at 6:15pm tomorrow night. We will be flying on united Airlines. The cool thing is that I haven't even been to O'Hare airport since I came from Romania when I was adopted, at the age of almost four! And now going back to Romania for the very first time!
... a better life. After the Second World War middle class travellers drove it for fun in their Chevys. Eventually Route 66 was bypassed by interstate highways and decommissioned in 1985. Most of it is still drive able in 2014 but we may need to seek out this old concrete highway which often runs parallel to the Interstate and take our time. We have three weeks to drive 2500 miles. ... A lot of this was basic knowledge but much was information I had either forgotten or meant I was not paying attention in school so was really worthwhile and interesting. Following our fill of xmasness with kids, we headed back downtown to the Chicago zoo - where they it is not only free to get into - but have the most amazing xmas light display - with lights going off in time with music in two parts of the zoo.
