... congested highway leading back to Portland. Dinner that evening was at The Deck which is very close to the Portland Airport on the water. ... ran into a lightning storm. A little further north the rain and hail hit- we had to slow way down in the highway because the rain was so intense and the storm so fierce. Two towns in a row we pulled off to fill up with gas to find the storm had taken out the electricity and we couldn't pump gas. ... From there, we went to Dick's Kitchen where we had a burger (Grandpa), a portobello burger (me), a veggie plate (Lindsay and Edith) and BBQ tempeh (Neil). It was really good, as was Grandpa's chocolate shake. They also had "not fried" baked French fries or yam fries with all these great dipping sauces. ... be the only one who can do something.. that's what Europeans do, there's always someone else who can also do the work as people are cross-trained for the very reason of allowing time off. This is one that I have: I work at home and for myself. I may not get to fully leave, but I can self-schedule a lot. The tradeoff is that the work can be unstable but the gain is in flexibility that I can work to my advantage.
