It wasn't comparable to Hurricane Faye, nor did it quite reach the intensity of the rain I'd seen in Cold Bay a few weeks before - but still, it was rain, it was heavy, it was enough to draw out a resident or two across the street and I watched it. ... Andy, who had also been on the wine tour and we and two Brazilian girls enjoyed conversation and a lunch on Angel Island
before being boated over to Alcatraz . Quite a place and the audio tour made it come alive with the words of prisoners and warders . Views of the city from behind bars must have increased the isolation. What amazed me was the book signing by a past inmate. You'd have thought the last thing he'd want to do was spend a day voluntarily holed up ...

... and bacon and a fruit bowl which put all other fruit bowls to shame. Lots of fresh fruit including berries, grapes, banana slices, pineapple, etc. Could not finish all but it was lovely and got us well fuelled up for the bike ride ahead!

We then took our pre-booked bikes, received instructions from a quirky Dutch guy and set off, at 10h15, for the 13k ride. The views were amazing and we stopped a few times for pictures ...

I do like my roomette you'll be pleased to hear, especially as you're not shoving a second person in here with me. That is much appreciated. ... can't have opted for a better way to see the city on first look. (Thanks Caitlin)... This included major attractions like the Golden Gate Bridge, Golden Gate Park, The Bay, Ocean Beach, a variety of suburbs such as: The Haights and outer suburbs. Dinner in Union/Filmore Street (mexican).
