We made it! This morning we finished packing everything up and Papa J took us to the airport around noon. We had plenty of time to check in and relax before our flight took off. The kids have been so excited; Carolina told us her stomach was feeling funny all morning because she was so excited. (Mine does too every time we are about to go on a trip!) Alex had other plans for the day and did not feel inclined to continue hiking so once we were back on slightly flatter ground (none of San Fran is actually flat, there are so many hills!) he went on his own way and Hayley and I walked towards the Twin Peaks Park.

Next we found a bus right along ...

The crossing was a great way to get a sense of the Bay Area with beautiful views all around. We had a number of stops before Oakland and the boat was packed with cycling commuters, including a bearded hipster with a Penny Farthing - never expected to see that. From the Oakland ferry port, we just had to cycle ...

... may go back a third!! Great food and shops. The terrain in this city is hard to appreciate until it's in front of you. It certainly makes for good exercise. Day 2 we fuelled up for the hills with an amazing brunch at an adorable restaurant situated smack in the middle of the historic Tenderloin district (read ghetto). It involved an hour wait around some of the dirtiest and craziest people I have ever seen, which helped the time pass. The food was excellent and ...
