... been a good way to finish the first phase of our trip. We timed it well for the Oakland ferry and had a happy hour glass of wine to celebrate. The crossing was a great way to get a sense of the Bay Area with beautiful views all around. We had a number of stops before Oakland and the boat was packed with cycling commuters, including a bearded hipster with a Penny Farthing - never expected to see that. ... After I got that out of my system we carried on walking around the vast amount of cool shops there was on offer. We could of spent an absolute fortune in this place! Had a couple of Sam Addams to while away the hour before room ready and then ...

Also in San Francisco we went to Pier 39 and we saw a sea lion. From here we could also see the island that used to be a prison. It is called Alcatraz.

Then we went back on the subway to the Bay Landing Hotel. After we had three days in America we flew to Paris

Another beautiful morning waking up in a redwood forest. This is not what I pictured when I was planning this trip but it will work! I ended up closer to San Francisco than I realized so I had an abundance of spare time for a couple hikes this morning. The first was a simple 1 mile informational hike that had some notably tall or remarkable trees. One was a tree with its heartwood burned completely out but ...
