Well, here we are finally underway and still tumbling in a crazy vortex of chaos, heavy bags, jet lag and culture shock! First the flight, a long old trip but made so much better by the great selection of films that Virgin had on offer. We managed to watch in tandem both Madagascar 2 and High School Musical 3, couple of big children that we are! Narita airport in Tokyo was very efficient, bags waiting for us by the time we got through a quick queue at passport control. Picked up the Japan Rai...
Tokyo, Kanto, Japan graeme_sarahEarly morning today!! We appear to have reversed our jet lag so woke up at 5.30ish all awake and decided to make the most of it and explore the fish market. After asking (and confusing!) the kind people on reception we found our way and began a day of subway exploration. From Shinjuku where we are based, we took the Oedo Line to Tsukishijo where the fish and wholesale market is based. On arrival we were hit by the smell of fish as soon as the train doors opened....indicating that we were in t...
Tokyo, Kanto, Japan graeme_sarahA smooth ride o the bullet train and 2 and a half hours later we're in Tokyo! Shinjuku Station apparently has 60 exits....finally found our one!
Tokyo, Kanto, Japan jamesandfatema... happy to have still kept in contact with everyone, I am excited to see my Kyoto/Osaka friends next week! The Japanese man that had a major crush on me (most of you know who I`m talking about) is also trying to meet up with me and take me out. Watch this space....
Going sightseeing today, maybe the Imperial Gardens, then meeting Lone and Jonas for dinner in the manga geek district.
Saiyonara!

After saying a sad farewell to my dear little ole Mum (who kindly took me to the airport), me and Jules went through Heathrows check in where I got proper frisked (as I made the alarm go off by carrying my phone and had a big chunky belt on). Jules realised she hadnt adequately prepared for 13hrs without a fag and started to climb the walls of terminal five, before calling her mum (who works in the airport) to see if she could 'pull any ...

Tokyo, Japan elsewhere... have picked some prettier geisha but it turns out they were all male...YIKES!!! Anyways, after the performance we decided to shop for a bit down Ginza which is the most elite shopping anywhere in Tokyo and boy was it expensive. They wanted 400 - 600 for everything, even shirts and t-shirts. I do have to say though that we in the US have yet to see the fashion Andrea and I have witnessed here in Tokyo. A lot of the stuff is really cool and really expensive. TO BE CONTINUED....
Tokyo, Japan romero... the hang of the train system - it's amazing, a train comes through every 5 minutes pretty much. And everyone falls asleep on the trains! Its crazy! Not many people talk, people just tend to sit there with their eyes closed, looking like they're half asleep. Although, I did feel like doing that myself last night, if I wasn't so worried about missing my connection. This is the map I have to use to get places - it's not as hard as it ...
Shinjuku, Japan spacepup... balls to swap for prizes (cigarettes and booze seemed the most popular). We had dinner, went to a few cafes, crepperies and bars, then headed to the trendy town of Ebisu, South of Shibuyu. A brilliant little place with bar on top of bar on top of bar. Thats the crazy thing about Tokyo, you really have to look up. Every building has a different thing on every floor, so every single thing you walk past has for example (internet floor 1, McDonalds Fl2, English Pub Fl3, Kareoke ...
Tokyo, Japan ebenbolter... deck, and instead had a look around the building a bit and met up with Megumi (who works there). Then we headed to a traditional Japanese restaurant called Gonpachi, which apparently has been a little busy since Monkey Man aka George Bush dined there a couple of years ago (trying to convince Japan to buy their beef again after mad cow instead of Australia's). It looks like a treasure box from the outside (whatever that is), and inside ...
Tokyo, Japan kiemce... were about 4GBP per bottle, so we thought we would make them last. When we reordered, we were given replacements! Turns out that the guy behind the bar was actually a customer but he spent so much money that the staff just let him do whatever! So, we had numerous beers for free. We insisted on buying him a drink but he was having none of it!! Of all the cities in all the world, we were pretty happy to be getting free drinks somewhere as expensive as Tokyo!
