Anyway, we had a free day in Richmond where all we did was tour the castle, walk around the Saturday market, which was very small and had some lovely cheeses and breads on sale and then - wait for it- Greg sat down in the lounge of the B&B, read a book for an hour or so AND had a nap. I know one thing, however, having been assisting in the front of the house for the last few days: the service at Gilpin is much more impeccable and much less pretentious than at the Samling. From here we made our way to Buttermere Lake, and skirted the whole way around the shoreline, ...

Up to the sun shining, kids playing! Kettle on full English cooked (well French sausages but the rest was English). Left the site around 11am, our aim today was Walla Crag and around Derwentwater. A steady climb to the top left us a pooped out but the view was worth it, the whole of Keswick lay beneath us, with Derwentwater to our left and Bassenthwaite lakes to our right. After the obligatory photos it was back down the other side. At one point Deb slipped and ...
