Ireland in a nutshell???
Up early (and by early I mean 10...) - Out the door at 11 and on the road! Goodbye Kenmare!
We flew up the road towards Blarney Castle - Had to do it for Mike's sake because how could you possibly go to Ireland and NOT kiss that stone? (I never have, FYI...germs....can't handle it!)
So we drove to Blarney which was a straight …

Lucky escape, Fiona’s phone may have been in the UK in the Vietnamese Embassy while I would have been en-route to Vietnam. We didn’t send our passports off; it is a really expensive way of doing it. The VOA works just as well and if you search around you can get them for as little as 10$ online with 25$ on arrival (educational & informative).

Sometimes you have to break the rules to have fun
What is the first rule of parenting? Don't disturb a sleeping baby, right? Well, we've broken that rule quite a few times this trip.
Yesterday, we drove about a half-hour outside Kilkenny to see the ruins at Jerpoint Abbey, and as is Oliver's practice, he fell asleep on the drive. We felt like such terrible parents, pulling a grumpy baby out of a car seat so we could see more remnants of monastic life. He was a ...
On the road
As I expected, the nature of our trip changed drastically when we got the rental car. We are no longer limited to places our feet and public transportation can take us. We are finally seeing the Ireland we came to see.
I'm not going to get into driving in Ireland--that deserves its own post--but suffice to say it is exciting. Sitting in the back seat navigating while hanging out with the kid, I kind of feel like I'm on the Amazing Race (come to think of it--why ...
Castles, Abbeys, and two more curbs
... press but was very interesting. It was a nice size abbey, in it's day, with several rooms and worship areas. Outside are the tombstones, which have surrendered to the moss and moisture. Since it's not on the beaten path, it was nice just to stroll along the fallen stones in the quiet cool air, without the disruption of others. Leaving the abbey, there were several cows hanging out by the abbey walls. I got a little worried when I thought of my friend ...

Location was great....
I was oddly itchy all night.
Not sure what was going on with this place but there were NO other guests except apparently 1 person who was sleeping in the next room and snored so loud that I felt like we were sharing a bed. The walls were so thin I could hear even his BREATHING. EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. CREEPYYYYYYYYYy
This place was just bizarre. The guy was nice enough who ran it but I did feel a bit like I was at a halfway house (not sure why) - It was eerie... The room was OK and the price was fine - It was just odd. Everything felt dirty even though it looked clean. There was a sign in the bathroom asking girls to not use the washcloths to remove makeup. Luckily I don't wear a lot but it was just so weird.
The breakfast was full Irish or whatever but what was put out made me sick enough to not want to order anything- Looked like someone emptied their fridge onto a table ....half used bottles of mayo, ketchup... for WHAT? so weird. rice krispy treats and other weird cereal bars...just really weird.
would not recommend unless all u care about is location. parking was a plus.
