This new hotel is clean, the elevators are large enough, the bathroom fixtures are stylish and functional, and the beds are comfortable. The staff is friendly and when I had trouble closing the window, the desk sent help in about 30 seconds flat. Awesome!

Scorpions and snakes

A travel blog entry by dabby1 on Apr 21, 2014

Slept like a baby, despite questioning whether scorpions and snakes exist in Turkey - which today I found out they do! The brown and black snakes are harmless, it's the blue, red and yellow ones to watch out for! And apparently under 95% of Turkish rugs you will find a scorpion!

Today we joined the day-long 'green tour' of the Cappadocia region. Our first lesson is that it's actually pronounced "Cappadokkya" and means 'land of ...

... some post card then started the walk back home again. It was a gorgeous sunny day so we sat in the sun and wrote our postcards and relaxed until it was time to put our packs on and trek the 2.5kms into town. We previously asked Mohammed if the owners would give us a lift in but it would cost us 10 lira.. Can't even get a free 5min lift off them! We of course didn't want to spend money on a ride so put our bags on and headed off. Before long a car slowed down and stopped, it was ...

One of those days where I was one of the only foreigners in a big city. I had a great time visiting mosques and trying new foods such as Kayseri Manti which is meat rolled into pasta in tomato sauce. It is named after this city. I also had mercimek sorba (pronounced shorba) which is lentil soup, kisilik pastirma which is dried meat cooked with onion tomatoes and other veggies, gilaboru which is salted fruit ...

... 2 people forgot to get in our balloon. Since he was joking a lot all the time we didn’t believe him but only until we saw a car going really fast in our direction and our balloon going down. It was surprisingly true! Two old ladies, while having breakfast, completely forgot about getting in the balloon, quite surprising right? Oh well, so we had to go down and pick them up. It was a really easy landing, both ladies got in the balloon and in less than 5 minutes we were again in ...
