Today was the day we left Bangkok again and this time headed out to Pattaya. Pattaya is located on the Gulf of Thailand approx 145 km south of Bangkok. After a 2 1/2 hour drive out of Bangkok we stopped shortly to hit a restroom. While there we popped into a mini-mart to pick up some TP for the bus (none of the bathrooms have toilet paper so bring your own) and some Thai cookies and candy. A quick trip up the road brought us to a Gem Factory. We got a tour of the plant showing us what they ge...
Pattaya, Thailand annacannToday was a relaxing day. We had a quick breakfast in the hotel. Grabbed our swimsuits and towels and headed out. Our bus took us about 30 min into the town of Pattaya to the beach to catch our speedboat to Coral Island Resort. On our way we stopped for a few minutes to let some people in our group parasail. This was like mass production. As soon as they strapped a person up with the chute, one was landing. They had 6 platforms in the middle of the water all doing this. I've never seen so man...
Pattaya, Thailand annacannDriving along the beach front in Pattaya I couldn't help but notice the high number of old white men milling about. Then I began to notice the large number of old white men with young Asian girls. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and look for a wedding ring as we crawled through the beach front traffic, but most did not have a rings but I still hate to think they were all there for just one thing. My thoughts of the Thai sex trade were momentarily pushed from my mind when we pull...

So golf told us(after a few beers) that we had to visits this place and see how beautiful it was for ourselves, so we did!
As soon as we walked in the park there were elephants trekking around the park.We jumped on the tour bus which was about 40p and had a hour long tour around the park to see all of the gardens, flowers and exotic pants (oh and a fake stone henge).
After sweating about a pint of water,we went into this arena ...
... sign up in the hills just like the Hollywood sign. There's skyscrapers and it actually reminds me a bit of Sydney, excluding the opera house. We took a longboat that brought us to a larger boat that goes 45 minutes out to Coral Island, named for its coral of course. You can do para-sailing, jet-skiing, and underwater walking around all the coral where you can see all the pretty fish and what-not, but we were both broke ...

... egg or weird brown cinnamon hard-boiled egg. For lunch we got 4 or 5 containers of food - way too much to eat. Always, white rice with some other mixed meats and veggies or soup or something strange. Our last day we each got 2 fish with their heads still on. I had to pass on that one. My favorite was when I got some type of soup with what I could easily tell was a chicken neck in it. You never know what to expect and Brian and I ALWAYS got ...
Pattaya, Thailand unbound... down on you while your husband is out having fun with his Nia-Noi, his second wife or maybe philandering in the local bordello with his mates while getting Mau on cheap moonshine whiskey expecting you to have dinner ready when he will get home. My bottle of Kloster beer is cold to the touch, the Doors are blaring away on the sound system, Manchester playing the English League on a 60 inch flatscreen, bar girls giggling when their behinds get pinches by drunk Scots in kilts ...
Pattaya, Thailand farang020... didn't bode well for the 3 hour minibus to Bangkok. I kept the Window down and had a very uncomfortable journey, luckily keeping everything that needed to go outside outside. When we arrived in Bangkok we had a bone to pick with the Travel agents who had sold us such a load of rubbish. In a very Gav Walker, Cliff Webb and Bobby Stodel fashion we let them know exactly what we thought of the hotel and their misguided advice. We managed to get some money ...
