Day 4 - Leaving Bangkok to Pattaya, Thailand

Today was the day we left Bangkok again and this time headed out to Pattaya. Pattaya is located on the Gulf of Thailand approx 145 km south of Bangkok. After a 2 1/2 hour drive out of Bangkok we stopped shortly to hit a restroom. While there we popped into a mini-mart to pick up some TP for the bus (none of the bathrooms have toilet paper so bring your own) and some Thai cookies and candy. A quick trip up the road brought us to a Gem Factory. We got a tour of the plant showing us what they ge...

Day 5 - Pattaya - Beach Day

Today was a relaxing day. We had a quick breakfast in the hotel. Grabbed our swimsuits and towels and headed out. Our bus took us about 30 min into the town of Pattaya to the beach to catch our speedboat to Coral Island Resort. On our way we stopped for a few minutes to let some people in our group parasail. This was like mass production. As soon as they strapped a person up with the chute, one was landing. They had 6 platforms in the middle of the water all doing this. I've never seen so man...

Driving along the beach front in Pattaya I couldn't help but notice the high number of old white men milling about. Then I began to notice the large number of old white men with young Asian girls. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and look for a wedding ring as we crawled through the beach front traffic, but most did not have a rings but I still hate to think they were all there for just one thing. My thoughts of the Thai sex trade were momentarily pushed from my mind when we pull...

... also walked around the orchid garden of the cultural center. They had several different species & colors of orchids. We are not real flower coinsures, but we knew that Mormor, Morfar & Mrs P would have loved it so Jack took several pictures for them. They had made several different sculptures using terra cotta flower pots...lots of pictures of those as well for Mr. P.

The microphone in the bus worked much better ...

... had to sit down below. Thus turning into possibly the worst 40 min of my life. We inhaled so much carbon monoxide my throat, lungs and head hurt. Every time I turned around the entire boat full of people were asleep. Not boading well for us at all. I was not feeling well so got up to try to go outside and get some fresh air. Unfortunately it had just started to poor! I guess there was just no winning. Luckily we did start to feel better not long after ...

Day 5 - tricks and dictionaries!

So today 3 new volunteers started so we had a big opening ceremony for them before we went for our morning walk. Ive been making Watong lift her trunk to me while we are riding which is good, but she soon stops when she realises I dont have food! Then when I gave her the shower Chai made me stand up on her! It was a little scary but he made her stand stock still and i was impressed I did it, well until 9 year ...

... Our tattoos are matching but are not the same picture. We got art depicting parts of Ankor Wat in Cambodia because we loved that country so much. Heathers is a female goddess known as an Aspara and mine is one of the thousands of faces of the Buddha carved in stone at Bayon Temple. They were painful after 4 hours but we are both happy and wouldn't trade it for anything. They were finished our tats a little after midnight so we had to take a long boat back to the resort. We ...

end of week 2

Well, it's Friday night at the end of week 2. We each taught 2 language classes this week and I must say the kids are precious. As soon as you walk in they stand and say "good morning, teacher." And when you leave they stand and say "thank you, teacher." I took some pictures of the school as I will be teaching there next month, I'll get them posted on Snapfish soon. The wat (temple) that runs the school is small but beautiful, and there are flowering trees and bushes all ...

Rather unpleasant, and nerve-wracking when they look at you and bare their teeth. GIVE US A KISS REXIE, MAGICAL SUNSET BEACH and HAND FEEDING THE SHARKS Ko Samet is humid at night (maybe its the non-air con room!) so its up early for a big breakfast prior to the snorkelling trip. Its a clear and sunny day. Ye-hah! First stop in the boat is some ...
