... town called Markleeville. I checked out the general store and found some unique bead belts from Brazil that I just could not resist. We continued on up into the alpine regions. More spectacular views, lots of huge rocks defying gravity by barely clinging to the mountainside. We did go through a couple of areas that were still muddy from fresh slides...gulp! Ebbetts Pass is a very narrow road with caution signs posted ...

... with water of beautiful greens and blues from emerald to sapphire, and very clear. Lake Tahoe is the largest alpine lake in North America with a depth of 1,645 feet. That makes it the second deepest in the U.S. In the bay we could see Vikingsholm Mansion at a distance. It was a castle-like home built by a Norwegian but I do not remember the details.

... arrived at the Plaza Hotel in Carson City around 5. Dinner was our choice so at Pete and Darlene's suggestion we headed to nearby Red's 395 Restaurant, named for the highway number. We had barbecue with June from New Jersey and Ingrid from Florida. Delightful company, great ambience and lots of good food! After dinner we headed back to our hotel room. It had been a long day on the bus!

... together. As Dustin's mom entertained the unsolicited salesman from Portland, we made her a quick breakfast and some for ourselves. I think I burnt the toast or the oil, but I couldn't tell what was smoke and what was just steam from it being so cold. The salesman left and we were able to spend some time together before the long trip to Nevada.
