Leaving Joe Wheeler
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Harry and I launched "Newhouse" a couple of days ago from Joe Wheeler State Park and Marina on her maiden voyage. We left with two other cruisers, Jim and Barbie on their 28' Hunter and Jack on his 43' Albin.
We are making our way back to the entrance to the Tenn-Tom Canal which will take us to the Gulf of Mexico in Mobile Alabama.

Day 26; Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama
... up from a stop, and certainly can't slow down fast. I pity the poor passenger car who accidentally pulls out in front of one of them.
We are back in Central Time, so gained an hour, and we were pretty hungry pulling in to camp (yes, by camp I mean... Walmart). I was tempted to find a Hardees after seeing banners and commercials for a double decker bacon cheeseburger with BBQ pork on the bottom half... Mmmm... ...

Hello everyone. It's been so long I don't even know where to start.But....Harry and I are still on the water in a sailboat on the Tennessee River in northern Alabama (just south of Tennessee, BTW).In September 2011 we sold our 26' Balboa "sniff" to a college student who wanted to live on a boat (why didn't we think of that).

Firstly I'd like to start by saying just how beautiful Florence and Muscle Shoals are. Absolutely stunning towns with hospitable, helpful people who seem bemused as to why we would holiday here. We woke up around 7am and headed down for an early USA style breakfast... Dave was so happy that the sausage gravy hadn't followed us from Tennessee that I swear he practically danced with his full plate of waffles.

... friends Windy and Arwen told us about the love for sports in Alabama and about college football; apparently locals support one of two local universities by saying "Roll Tide!" or "War Eagle!".. Now, we're still yet to find out which university is which and so when visiting a bar for some food in downtown Florence we kept very quiet. they had more sports on more TV's than I'd ever seen and the frat boys on the table in front of us mentioned both Roll Tide ...
