Historical Traveler Reviews Novum Hotel Aldea Berlin Zentrum

immaculate room, close to station and all one wanted for a short stay in Berlin. The perfect base for a visit where the emphasis is on being out sightseeing all day and coming back to the hotel to sleep in a clean bed for a few hours before getting up and doing the same again. Recommended

My wife and I stayed here in April. The hotel is in excellent condition; breakfast was ample in a modern light airy restaurant. The rooms were recently renovated. We travel to many cities and found this a hotel we would use again and recommend to friends. We were surprised at the negative review; compared with chain hotels we have stayed in London and New York this was lovely by comparison. The u bahn is only 3 minutes walk away which is ideal if utilising a cheap 3-day rail card. The area has lots of small late night cafes and takeaways. Definitely use again

          Cheap but not really cheerfull

Well all i can say is that expedia rates this hotel as 4 star - no chance - it was a 2/3 at the very most .

The rooms where clean but very sparse - in fact it reminded me of my old school dorm !!!

The staff where very friendly - the resteraunt was fine - Its a little rough and ready in the local area but there where a few 5 star hotels with great bars just round the corner - Its in a cheap and not very cheerfull area -a few of the local girls of the night where prowling around ----- i don't think its a bad hotel just not what i expected for the money paid - and i don't like payin for 4 star when its 2 star .

I don't think i would stay here again unless it was on a really cheap deal.

Great standard for a budget hotel

We are a family of four who stayed three nights at the Aldea, Berlin in June 2004. We found it great, with spacious rooms, nice staff, low prices and in walking distance to many famous places if you are a bit fit.

The Metro runs close by, but we found the taxis cheaper for four persons.

The kitchen was very slow, but the food quite nice. Breakfasts were average and not included in the room price. A cafe next door is a far better choice.

The nice, fenced in parking area was appreciated, also the hotel maintenance man's free assistance when our car would not start.

There is no air-conditioning, but the windows can be opened, and there is little noise from the park-like surroundings.

In all: quite recommendable if you are looking for a budget hotel near the city center and do not need a swimmingpool on the premises.

          Enjoyable Hotel

Contrary to the reviewer above, I enjoyed this hotel. I thought the hotel gave an impression of what Berlin is like to average tourists and not for people looking to stay at a very American English-speaking hotel just so they can say they visited Berlin. The elevators were of the older style so we had to remember to open the door of the elevator when it stopped.

I thought the breakfast was very ample with many selections of cheese, meat, and bread.

The room was small but neat and clean.

The hotel was close to the U-bahn so we had access to many restaurants and the area where we could pick up short half day trips.

          Budget hotel worth a look

I stayed at this hotel in June 2004 and found it clean and perfectly acceptable for a budget hotel. It is 1/2 block from a U-Bahn station, 10 to 15 minute walk from the Kultureforum in one direction and 20 minute walk from Kadewa in another direction, and 3 to 4 blocks from a street with a number of Indian and Turkish restaurants. It is not, however, in a touristy/nightlife area so it depends on what you are looking for. I enjoyed staying out of tourist area and found it perfectly acceptable. I assume breakfast has changed since the Jan review for we found breakfast to be quite good and served in a very nice restaurant with individual tables, linen tablecloths, etc. The breakfast was above average with lots of fresh fruit, yogurts, cereals, breads, a variety of hot and cold meats, eggs, etc. Again, if you are looking for a clean, budget hotel and don't care about being in tourist area then give this a look.

          Aldea was disappointing

A very disappointing hotel in a poor area of town, but close to a U Bahn station. Barren halls and ancient elevators led to rooms which were clean but very small and completely undecorated. It was impossible for a tall person to go to the bathroom without burning themselves on the heater. Breakfast was served buffet style on mass (school-camp style) with budget ingredients on fold away tables. The restaurant used to serve dinner was of only slightly better quality. The overall impression was of a budget hotel certainly not up to the standard of other 3 or 4 star hotels in Berlin. I would recommend that travellers avoid this hotel if at all possible.

          Week 14: Berlin!

Here's a (not so) little story about my trip to Berlin. : ) As soon as Ingo told me he would let me stay in his flat in Berlin for free, I knew I'd have to go back. I was actually in Berlin about a year ago as one of my day trips from the Baltic Cruise I took with my family. Though I saw a lot, I knew that I could see much more if I spent more ...

          Berlin, Germany selenelove

Hello everyone! Sorry it's taken a while to get round to but here is my news and views on Berlin. So... well, where do I start? I absolutely loved this city. So different from all the other places I've been so far, at the moment I think I like it even more than Paris. There's just so much to see and because the most significant events in Berlin'...
