Reasonable hotel - probably only just a four star. Rooms a little bit tired, and all seem to be smoking rooms so the smell when you first come in isn't at all pleasant. Nice big beds and fantastic water pressure in the showers. Nice touch is the condom provided in the bathroom! Breakfast is quite good and they also offer free wifi - and the speed is pretty good. Two metro stops to the Pearl Markets - or a reasonable walk.

This morning we started our Insider Journey tour with a visit to the Beijing Planning Exhibition Hall. This site provided us with a glimpse of the city's past and present development, as well as plans for the capitals future. The 3D models of the city were just fantastic and gave you a great perspective of the overall city. We then walked through …

This morning we travelled to Mutianyu, about 90 kilometres north-east of Beijing, to visit China's most famous attraction - the Great Wall of China. The Great Wall of China was built over 2000 years ago and is rumoured to be visible from the moon, extending 5000 kilometres from the Shanhaiguan Pass on the east coast to the Gobi Desert in the west. …

Early start today to catch 8.30 flight to Beijing. Supposed to be flying Premium Economy and guess what? No PE on this flight! Not happy. Will have to have words with the travel agent over this! We still had extra leg room seats and only the two of us between 3 seats, but not what we had paid for. Flight left late but still arrived on time. …

Keenan, mom, and dad took Ally and I to the airport Sunday morning to see us off. Our very long (11.5 hour) flight was fairly uneventful until the last 20 minutes, which were the worst 20 minutes of my life. Ally had her barf bag out but fortunately for me never actually used it. The rest of the flight we spent reading, synchronizing iPods, …

... way round! When you're traveling on your own and this happens it's like bumping into an old friend you haven't seen for ages. The travellers you meet are like a replacement family while you're away. It's not that you rely on them as if you were travelling together, more that you know you can go out with them to do something if you both want, or not if you want to fly solo for abit. It's a hard thing to describe, a weird kind of kinship and understanding. I think ...

Somehow I survived without going insane, and the pilot announced that we would soon be making our descent into Brisbane for our stopover, just as the sun was coming up. We touched down, and made our pointless 1 hour Brisbane stopover. When we got off the plane, we had to go through the entire bag check procedure ...
