... Forces museum, which is housed in a refurbished fort, With our own uniformed army soldier who spoke little English, and our driver to translate, we learned lots about the history of Oman, its present Sultan and armed forces, fascinating, and beautifully presented, All with English translations so our two guides were lovely to have but not entirely needed. Outside along with many vehicles, planes, boats etc, was the Sultans first armoured car, a 70's Cadillac, with ...

We spent the rest of the day eating a leisurely meal at a Indian vegetarian restaurant and walking around the neighborhood near the hotel. We had passed this restaurant a number of times and it was always packed with Indian people. So, we went in today and it was really quite good (and cheap ...

I had already bought 4 books the night before so I didn't allow myself to go home with more even though I really wanted to. :-)  I did read some cookbooks and found a few recipes that I copied down to try when I get back to Amman.   By the middle of the afternoon, we were hungry and went to Noodles for some food.  It's not like our Noodles at home but it has some good Asian food and we knew ...

... the remainder of the day saw me driving for the first time in the middle east, around Muscat. We visited the Sultan's Palace with its blue and gold mushroom pillars. During the slave trade, if any slave reached the flagpole and touched it they were granted freedom. However the flagpole is no longer there. Then around to the Marina for some more views of the coast and further along we visited the corniche and stopped ...

On the Road to Muscat and back

... is cropped by donkeys. The one we saw was rather tame in comparison, but very common. I had read of a short road trip from Muscat into a wadi inland so we decided to give it a go and headed off to Wadi Mayh. The instructions in Muscat are charming - 'turn left at the Dolphin roundabout' - if you can find the right roundabout you are set. The city, in fact all of the country that we saw, has a love affair with roundabouts, and each one has something in the middle ...

The Country I Never Saw

The first rays of the sun woke me up. I had slept for who knows how long and I was feeling better. After breakfast, which included more pita bread (I'm so sick of pita bread!) it was back to Rum for the first bus to Aqaba. Rachel and I had an 11:59 p.m. flight to catch in Amman and we wanted to ensure that we didn't miss it. Aqaba is Jordan's hedonistic Red Sea town and only a stone's throw away from Egypt. Of course, we didn't know that at the time and ...

Muscat, Oman

We made our way across Oman to the capital city, Muscat. It was very spread out with great whitewashed buildings along the seafront. It is home to the Sultan of Oman and his impressive waterfront palace. On route, we travelled through a mountain range that was quite scenic. It was a great couple days.

... the eggs. We actually saw a bunch of baby turtles just hatched from the eggs, you know what, these babies always follow sun/light (In morning Sun rises in the east and this is the direction to sea, so good for them). So when the ranger put torch towards sea all babies started crawling towards it and when he put light in opposite direction towards beach, the babies actually tumbled and took reverse turn again towards the light...HOO, after such good informative section we went ...
