Very special city. You absolutely must see. I was a Te Puia to se geysers and maori show. But the best thing it's the Matariki Hangi and concert show near the Novotel. Very good hotel.

DAY 26

DAY 26 It's Monday so it must be our day to fly to Rotarua - home of hot springs, geysers, etc. I'm not particularly looking forward to this bit of the trip as both Kay and Sharon have said one day was enough as it's very commercialized and pretty smelly! Traveling here is very different; if you ask anyone how far to anywhere they always respond with a time rather than a mileage so when we asked the time to Christchurch we were told to leave three hours for the journey. The host of the B&...

Indoor skies of Waitomo

We left Auckland pretty early.  While we did get a decent view of the water from our hotel and the highway, we really didn't get to see or do anything else in the city.  I hadn't slept very well the night before, so I passed out in the van.  I awoke for "morning tea," which for me was a pretty good raspberry white chocolate blondie-pie thing.  It wasn't quite a pie, but was too tight/compressed to be a crumble.  I don't think anybody actually got tea. We got back in the van to finish the trip...

Maori people rock

We got on our bus in the morning and headed towards the stink.  To be honest, I don't actually mind the smell of sulfur, despite disliking the way egg yellows taste.  Our tour guide, Cousin Ben, was extremely knowledgeable.  He is a Maori local and so has lots of connections with the area and the people in it. At our first stop was the mud pool area near Wai o tapu.  Here, the ground was wet and muddy.  The difference between this mud and the mud at home though, was that this mud was boiling....

Good Value Stay In Central Rotorua

from Gobicamelrider
This Novotel is well above the average standard I have found at other Novotels with good service and a large clean room. The inclusive breakfast was good value with a wide selection and large quantity of food available.

The hotel was very helpful with information on what to do in the local area and was able to arrange evening shows if required.

The hotel is located in the centre of the town with the local shops and restaurants a short walk away. Free car parking is offered in the large car park through out your stay.

The nicest hotel in Rotorua

from Segler
Okay, Rotorua is a tourist place, but this hotel is really quite nice. It has got spacious rooms, nice view and it's centrally located. It's not 5*-Luxury, but for a few days stay it's definitely okay. I'd go there again.

Better than expected for a Novotel

from whittimere
In a great location, the hotel was large, spacious with good sized bedrooms. There are excellent leisure facilities including two spa's - one with thermal waters - a swimming pool and sauna plus gym - all under cover. Restaurant is a normal buffet offering good value. Overall, for the time of year, the room rate is not cheap though.

Better than expected

We didn't expect a Novotel Hotel to be as nice as this one - the inside was much nicer than the impression the outside gave. Great location, easy to get around. Very nice room plus the buffet breakfast had a nice selection.

Good Value for a Basic Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
We found our room to be rather spacious and very clean with a nice livingroom. What we enjoyed most was that our breakfast was included in the room rate and that its location was in the heart of the downtown area. We would return if we were looking for basic accommodations.

Clean and unexceptional

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed here in August, 2004. Found the rooms clean, fixtures in good condition, and cheap drinks at the bar (happy hour maybe?) The hotel has its own foul-smelling thermal baths (no worse than the rest of the region) and we did not try the restaurant. There seemed to be a lot of tour groups staying over. Overall, probably one of the better hotels in Rotorua.

Great location, food needs to be better

from HikerTraveler
Spent 4 days in February, '04. Location is excellent. A short walk to everything. Maori Dinner and Concert next door is the best. Breakfast buffet is lacking and served maybe the worst coffee I have ever tasted.

Since so many restaurants are nearby, you have plenty of other options.

Reasonable hotel in a good location

A well located hotel that supplied the necessities. We enjoyed the buffets, the Hangi (Maori dinner), and the staff was quite efficient.

Excellent Hotel

This is a beautiful hotel. Walk out the hotel turn left and all the restaurants are right there. Turn right and Lake Rotorua is just right there. It is just 5 minutes walk to reach the town center. Hotel is really in an excellent location. This hotel is still quite new. I saw a painting on the hotel wall saying it was inaugurated in 1996. The room are large, clean and look quite new. Beds are comfortably firm. Toilet is clean and has lot of hot water. I highly recommend this fine luxurious hotel. Email me if you need more info about this hotel. Drexcor@thesquare.com
