Rotorua
Very special city. You absolutely must see. I was a Te Puia to se geysers and maori show. But the best thing it's the Matariki Hangi and concert show near the Novotel. Very good hotel.
An All-Kiwi Experience!
We were originally supposed to spend two nights in Rotorua, but the car issues resulted in us losing one night there. The drive to Rotorua was along a windy road along Lake Rotorua. Before seeing the small city, one could smell it first, as Rotorua lies in a thermal area and the air, as such, is full of sulphur gas.
We got into Rotorua …
Rotorua Museum/Maori Cultural Performance & Dinner
Today's activities included breakfast at our hotel. We departed the hotel for our first stop of the day at the Red Woods Forest.
We made a trek through the tallest redwoods forest that I’ve ever seen. It was very pretty, and we all enjoyed the quiet of the forest during our hike.

Huka Falls/Rotorua
Our destination today is Rotorua where we will stay for two nights.
Our first stop is to visit the National Army Museum in Waiouru. The museum is devoted to showcasing historical artifacts of New Zealand's conflicts that shaped their country.
We were guided through different exhibits that depicted their involvement in various wars …
Karangahake Gorge/Whakarewarewa Thermal Village
Kia ora!! This morning we departed Auckland by firstly taking a detour to the top of Mt. Eden, with a view to getting an aspect of Auckland. However, there was a fairly thick fog hovering over the city and as we climbed Mt. Eden Di or Fran, the coach driver, or both of them made a decision that we would not stop at the summit. This was not to the …

Just one night stayed at this hotel. I got everything I expect from a hotel. I slept very well. Perhaps because I had spa few hours before sleeping.

Historical Traveler Reviews Novotel Rotorua Lakeside
Good Value Stay In Central Rotorua
This Novotel is well above the average standard I have found at other Novotels with good service and a large clean room. The inclusive breakfast was good value with a wide selection and large quantity of food available.
The hotel was very helpful with information on what to do in the local area and was able to arrange evening shows if required.
The hotel is located in the centre of the town with the local shops and restaurants a short walk away. Free car parking is offered in the large car park through out your stay.
The nicest hotel in Rotorua
Okay, Rotorua is a tourist place, but this hotel is really quite nice. It has got spacious rooms, nice view and it's centrally located. It's not 5*-Luxury, but for a few days stay it's definitely okay. I'd go there again.
Better than expected for a Novotel
In a great location, the hotel was large, spacious with good sized bedrooms. There are excellent leisure facilities including two spa's - one with thermal waters - a swimming pool and sauna plus gym - all under cover. Restaurant is a normal buffet offering good value. Overall, for the time of year, the room rate is not cheap though.
Better than expected
We didn't expect a Novotel Hotel to be as nice as this one - the inside was much nicer than the impression the outside gave. Great location, easy to get around. Very nice room plus the buffet breakfast had a nice selection.
Good Value for a Basic Hotel
We found our room to be rather spacious and very clean with a nice livingroom. What we enjoyed most was that our breakfast was included in the room rate and that its location was in the heart of the downtown area. We would return if we were looking for basic accommodations.
Clean and unexceptional
Stayed here in August, 2004. Found the rooms clean, fixtures in good condition, and cheap drinks at the bar (happy hour maybe?) The hotel has its own foul-smelling thermal baths (no worse than the rest of the region) and we did not try the restaurant. There seemed to be a lot of tour groups staying over. Overall, probably one of the better hotels in Rotorua.
Great location, food needs to be better
Spent 4 days in February, '04. Location is excellent. A short walk to everything. Maori Dinner and Concert next door is the best. Breakfast buffet is lacking and served maybe the worst coffee I have ever tasted.
Since so many restaurants are nearby, you have plenty of other options.
Reasonable hotel in a good location
A well located hotel that supplied the necessities. We enjoyed the buffets, the Hangi (Maori dinner), and the staff was quite efficient.
Excellent Hotel
This is a beautiful hotel. Walk out the hotel turn left and all the restaurants are right there. Turn right and Lake Rotorua is just right there. It is just 5 minutes walk to reach the town center. Hotel is really in an excellent location. This hotel is still quite new. I saw a painting on the hotel wall saying it was inaugurated in 1996. The room are large, clean and look quite new. Beds are comfortably firm. Toilet is clean and has lot of hot water. I highly recommend this fine luxurious hotel. Email me if you need more info about this hotel. Drexcor@thesquare.com
