    ... while just enjoying this tropical wonder.

    One constant throughout all the islands we have visited has been one of friendliness and respect to us as visitors. They obviously appreciate the goodwill and support of their livelihood to their lives.

    Thank you good ship Statendam and Crew for making this possible.

    Next I will attempt to catch up with my blog – see you next on Fanning Island. ...

    ... the next 30 hours or so we had squally, gusty weather offering grey, dark skies with lumpy, confused seas. We were however moving at a fairly good clip with two reefs in to protect the weakened Mainsail slides, as well as a partially furled Genoa and after one full days sailing we were 142 nautical miles from Nuku Hiva, dead on course for Rangiroa in the Tuamotu Archipelago. At some point during the first day a small stress tear developed in the body of the mainsail ...

    ... to a reef in the front of the island where there was still a chance of seeing some of the magnificent creatures that live in the area. Sadly it was not to be, whilst the sea was clear and lovely and we had a few black tip reef sharks circling around us, the giant mantas, dolphins and hammerheads all kept their distance. Looks like we are going to have to leave this one on our bucket ...

    ... jumping out of the water now and then. It was SO EXCITING!! The waves were just the right amount of roughness for the dolphins to play, and it was not too rough for us. I was the only one who put on the life jacket. Like others, I took video with my underwater camera, but really did not catch any good shots. We're all crowded in the zodiac and I had to hang on to the zodiac (to make sure I did not fall out of the boat:-)). I took a whole bunch of videos ...
