Spent my birthday visiting the surrounding sand dunes of the town. Spectacular red and white sand dunes awaited us. they were so picturesque, so perfectly created, it looked like a postcard! We read in our guide book that it's fun to sand surf so when we were offered a board we decided to give ...
Well we've only been here through the nightand all morning, but it seems as though all the beachfront propert is owned by expensive resorts, and our hotel which is more like motel, but called a resoprt is right on the water..... and by right on the water I mean the waves crash up against it. Much to my dismay, there is also not enoughwind right now for us to take kite-surfing lessons, so basically the only thing for us to do is go to the sand dunes this afternoon ...
Mui Ne, Vietnam surgeongeneral...
MuiNe, Vietnam bgroove... ve ever seen and a way of moving that would make your granddad blush! Anyway, the food DID Look amazing and some of the flower arrangements were pretty spectacular too. The judges had a police escort, several deep, so I think there was a lot of kudos to be had as a winner, not to mention the prizes (a TV and a microwave!). This afternoon while pinching a wifi connection and having a beer at a local shop I met Fitz. In the ...
Phan Thiet, Vietnam 50odd... accompanied by an eleven year old boy that was not exactly enthusiastic about having to make this trip with us. Fortunately the scenery made up for his lack of enthusiasm with red sand dunes, cliffs and other formations on either side of valley that the creek followed. The stream was very shallow and warm and easy to navigate, but the water was red and we could not see the bottom of the stream with even an inch of water. Before we got to the waterfall ...
Mui Ne, Vietnam aaronpolarbear... to the fishing town of Mui Ne and then to the Red Sand Dunes. As we neared the Dunes this man came running towards our bike waving at us and Sarah got it into her head that the bike was on fire! - little did we suspect that he was offering to mind our bike for us as we went sandboarding on the dunes, but his attitude was "you do for me I do for you" and since he had a cafe we figured we could get a coke or something after so it seemed a fair deal ...
Mui Ne, Vietnam sarahanddermot... looks like it could tip over very easily. Outside of the town we drove past farms and houses with giant plastic sheets in the sun that have hundreds of drying fish lying over them. The smell of the area was unmistakable rotting fish, which will later get pulped together to make one of the staple ingredients of every South East Asian meal, fish sauce. Mui Ne is also ...
Mui Ne, Vietnam coopertrooper... covered yellow sand dunes. We spent barely five minutes there before heading back into the jeep, causing our driver to put out the cigarette he had just lit. While none of the stops on the 'tour' were all that exciting, it was still a nice way to spend the afternoon. The next two days the most ambitious task I undertook was walking up and down the beach. It was really beautiful and relatively empty, being ...
Mui Ne, Mui Ne, Vietnam laura1... Grandpa was asking them formally for permission for Huy and Lien to be public about seeing each other - yes, VN is oldschool). It was pure backward country VN replete with the poorest dentition and hygiene. A small country home off the side of the road, it hid huge hospitality and heart. Here, again was a powerful sense of family. The patriarch of the family had just arrived the night before because Huy's girlfriend's sister is getting ...
Phan Thiet, Vietnam augiejhu... The kdis who chased after me were intent on me boarding for a couple of dollars despite my rejections and upon discovering I wasn't going to eb won over, they quickly turne nasty adn insulting, come out with obscene English sware words etc...Crazy! Bothered, I kenw the white dunes would be heaps better the following day.. The red dunes themselves I guess can be palced on a par with the existign ones along Jerseys' Western Coast on the 5mile Road, yet the y were ...
