Nice and the Conference

We awoke to clear skies in Nice, a nice change from Rome and a chilly transit in Paris. Our room at the Novotel c/o the conference is very nice with full hotel amenities includine a warm and cold breakfast (with as much cafe au lait as you can take). It is a mere 300m away from the Acropolis convention center and site of the conference. While Bill presented and networked, Teresa made the most of the day by reacquainting herself with this lovely Mediterranean town along the Cote d' Azur. Mardi...

Last Day in Europe

After Bill's last presentation at the conference it was time to explore Nice. We had run out of steam and decided to save the idea of going to the Provence region for another adventure. The day was clear, blue skies and 50F ... knowing we wouldn't be seeing that kind of weather at home on a regular basis for a while, the seaside town was the call for the day. Ambitious on foot, we covered a lot of ground. We stopped for a bit of lunch and took our prefunctory "Daily Facts" photo after salads ...

Monte Carlo, an unbelievable place

... staff than patrons. Cost €10 to get in! The interior is like one of the palaces I’ve been too; plush seats; pull levers on the pokies. The tables are old-style with the croupiers using real rakes to literally rake the money in. Even the toilets are self-cleaning. The whole place is quite surreal. Not as big as I imagined, and I think it was quiet because u had to pay, whereas the casino at my hotel was always packed & free entry with ...

Nice was nice

... the most beautiful boats in the world are in MonteCarlo...

Language is more interesting in france. If we try to do the simple tourist things then most people can work out what is going on but when we try something else eg. going to the doctor (sue has been sick) going to a chemist.. or finding a Laundamatt.. then the language thiig is a bit more animated....

have some grat pics of Nice and French Rivierra to show when we get home...

I'm in Monte Carlo baby!

... tomorrow. The hotel is the flashest i have ever stayed at. There was a gala ball on tonight and some famous people (tv cameras here and all!). I didn't recognise anyone tho. Had a drink at the bar to soak up the atmosphere. My view is fantastic.

Not going to update the travel blog for a few days while I enjoy the relax time in Monte Carlo. Will summarise it all with photos once I’m on my way to Italy. Here’s hoping the weather shines for me.

The most amazing cars ever

... the morning shift I ran to the railway station. The return ticket to Monte Carlo was only 5 Euros, and the journey last 15-20 minutes. The views were gorgeous, but the best one was the old town of Monte Carlo and it`s cars. Jeeez! Amazing! Moreover, they would stop in order to let you pass through - before you even got to zebra. I had a very limited time, but the things I saw there made me convinced it was not my last time in Monaco.

coke at $12 per glass

... the James Bond one) and sat at the cafe outside sipping a coke and watching the Rolls and Ferraris go by. An incredible place to visit. We ordered a very long slow coke at $12 (24 Euros) per glass (it was the cheapest thing on the drinks list, milkshakes were $25 !!!! 50Euros).

Nice was also interesting for sightseeing the people on the beach. Very few clothes on, in fact they also have “naked police”. Obviously not undercover cops?

Nice... the good life

... it was already five in the evening. Instead, we sat and enjoyed the views from a beach side bar. Then we walked along the path that follows the beach and the sea all the way to the marina area where we sat down and had our first crepes of the trip. They were subpar, but we had a fantastic view. We continued walking and managed to get lost, as always, so we saw a bit more of Nice than we had intended to. While walking, we all ...

The French Riviera For My Four Years with Brandon

... had to get special coins and tickets just to play with our five euro but it was a cool thing to have done. After that we walked around the shops in Monaco, it is such a beautiful and enjoyable city. Then we took the train back and barely made out bust back up to our hotel in La Gaude. We had to grab sandwiches for dinner because our hotel was pretty secluded and that day was the first day that the restaurant would be ...
