Budpest for two nights

Off to Budapest today and on arrival we have a city tour before going to our hotel for two nights. The weather is windy, the breeze is cool but the sun is warm.

Tonight we enjoy a optional Danube cruise and dinner and it is really very nice seeing the night lights of Budapest.

We have our optional excursion to the house of parliament, St Stephen's Church and end up in the famous Gundel restaurant enjoying a chocolate crepe. Free time afterwards and miss the bus back to the hotel so have to catch a taxi, they take too long to serve you at cafes and restaurants and vowed to get take away next time.

... of it. We learnt about some Hungarian inventions (Rubix cube and the biro!) as well as famous Hungarians. The tour was really good and concluded with a list of Do's and Don'ts (including not saying thank-you when paying a bill as that basically means keep the change!).

After the tour we walked around the 'Buda' side of the river before making our way back to our hostel which was on the 'Pest' side. We hung out here for the rest of the day and ...

... from, past Heroes Square and got off at the bottom of the furnicular which goes up to Pest Castle (not all facts presented in this blog are guaranteed to be accurate). This time we knew what the furnicular was and decided it was too expensive so we walked up to the top of the castle. It was a nice shady walk with great views overlooking the Buda side and the river which separates Pest. There were a heap of museums at the top and nice buildings and statues.

... Hungarian sponge cake with a hot chocolate. The cake had an odd taste to it and I couldn't tell if I liked it or not. I'm not really sure how to explain it.

After the cafe we headed towards the palace. On the way we saw some more things I'm sure had some sort of importance, but we just didn't know what they were. Still pretty cool to see though. When we reached the palace it was located on a very ideal spot with another great view of the city. It was hard to get ...
