Ferrara, Emilia-Romagna, Italy benitalutzShort train ride from Florence after a hair raising trip trying to return the rental car in confusing, congested and traffic restrictied Florence (don't rent a car downtown go to the airport). Bologna is an university town (even Johns Hopkin has a campus). Very historical town with a great plaza area like most towns and a great antique market.
Bologna, Emilia-Romagna, Italy pathenger... the language. Gherardo was a willing wealth of knowledge, and taught me that if a man in Italy is wearing a bespoke suit, he unbuttons the last button on the cuff of his suit, to signify this. I started looking for it and saw it all over the place.

After dinner we rushed to catch our train back to the hotel, but we missed it. It was close to midnight, and no more trains. After haggling with ...
Ferrara, Emilia-Romagna, Italy jaeleli... there was a free breakfast buffet which we took full advantage of. We didnt really do much in the actual city of Bologna. We more or less used it as a base to get to other places for day trips, returning to the city to eat and sleep. The food was great; we had our first pizza in Italy and it was tasty.... its fun knowing that things like pizza are only going to get better when we get closer to its point of origin (Napoli)
Bologna, Emilia-Romagna, Italy amandawhitaker... But for 1.40 I wasn't too mad. I chased it with my first gelato in Italy, and it was amazing. I could have eaten so much more. I got two flavors, but of course I didn't really know what I was getting. The first turned out to be chocolate with some mild coffee influence and the second was Nuttella flavored gelato (I could understand that sign). Italian's love their Nuttella I've noticed a few stores and café's with 5 kilo jugs of the stuff. A 5 kilo ...
Bologna, Emilia-Romagna, Italy mavsqb1... COVERED in graffiti, but the little shops are beautifully decorated. I think the city has given up on the graffiti, and consequently, even though there is a lot, the beauty of the storefronts and the porticoes overwhelms the graffiti. Also, while there is spray paint on the walls, there seems to rarely be any real vandalism, and the streets have much less litter than Florence. That's enough for now...tune in soon for Bologna part due!
Bologna, Italy adrianel... Terni, but once we knew that, we could look on the departing board for the Terni train and see all the stops. I think I mentioned before that direct only means you don't have to change trains, not that it is direct to your destination without any stops. As we waited, A. took us to the "sala da aspetto"(waiting room) to show us the memorial of the 1980 bombing of the train station there in Bologna. The memorial listed all those who lost their ...
