After 7 nights camping I am becoming expert at putting up the tent. Though I have to say that sleeping on a 1/4 inch foam is not the most comfortable, I have actually slept. Going to bed at 8.30 pm and getting up at 6 am has now become a habit which I hope will continue and I am looking forward to having a proper mattress. We crossed the border into Tanzania uneventfully, though we were warned about the hawkers being very aggressive. I think I have too many bracelets already though I had bough...

Hi

Just reading through the entries and noticed that so far I have not told you guys what a typical day here is all about. Well I start the day around 6.30 - 7.00 all depending how much time I want to have for breakfast. Breakfast consists off toast with peanutbutter and jam (peanut butter to dry to eat on toast alone) with either a coffee or ginger tea (yum). Lessons start at 8.00 and depending on what day it is I will teach either English ...
Arusha, Tanzania mariskabassie... godson and adam (gardner who came with us) stayed behind to get the tyre fixed. All in all they ended up at the hotel only 30 min later so not bad. The kids absolutely loved it playing in the kids pool and a few in the deep pool where we learned them how to swim. There was music as well at the pool as later on in the evening there was a conference there so good for us. The kids loved it all and the evening ended with a pizza to their delight. They ...
Arusha, Tanzania mariskabassie... the other trucks that had gathered. The road we found ourselves on was quite a ways away though and the only way we could confirm the kill was by using binoculars and a zoom lens. There were four lions guarding the dead zebra which kept the hyenas and jackals at bay. Sadly the zebras also stood around as if bereft over their fallen comrade.

We moved away after that exploring the rest of the crater and looking for more game. We ...

Also, photographing government officials, buildings, airports, police or vehicles is not recommended, ESP. at border crossings. [Dear readers: Pretend you didn’t see those airport photos I took yesterday.]

· Shopping: Tauck isn’t too big on shopping (they don’t want to ...

Arusha, Tanzania ole.dolven... time watching the cars passing by. Border crossing was very fast. But as soon as we arrived to Arusha we learned that we were not the most important guests. Mr. GW Bush decided to visit Arusha today as well. So, we had literally 10 minutes to repack our luggage from the shuttle to our safari 4x4, pick up our airplane tix to Zanzibar and head out of town... though we didn't manage on time, the road was closed, but only for 10 minutes! As soon as the ...
Arusha, Tanzania tourjournal... only is partially dulled by the recollection that I am racing not to tourniquet a bleeding artery or push an old lady with a basket of kittens out of the way of oncoming traffic, but to deliver some vigorously spell-checked papers into proper hands.... Yep, me and Indiana Jones.
Arusha, Tanzania afrikanyaTwo weekends ago I went with two friends from the ICTR and two guides, Moses and Nelson, on a big fat 7-hour hike up a big hill and down the other side and then up a river bed to a waterfall. It was beautiful and glorious ...
Arusha, Tanzania afrikanya... one of those occasions where pictures would tell 1000 words and describing everything we saw would both take hours and most likely bore you all to death. To summarise, we saw the BIG FIVE!!! As I'm sure you all know, the BIG FIVE are African Elephants, Leopards, Lions, Buffalo and Rhinos, not necessarily in that order. They were spread fairly well over the areas we safari-ed and we saw plenty else ...
