Street Parade in Zurich is awesome

I had never thought of travelling to Zurich only to take part in the Street Parade. But back in 2008 some friends wanted me to go there and I did not regret it. It is a real special parade with many friendly people in a very nice city near the Lake Zurich. The central station was also decorated and used for the party, and during night time the big station hall became one of the largest dancing clubs in the world. I can only tell people to go there and enjoy the great ambiance!
Exploring Luzern

... water under the glaciers mixed with sand. The holes were carved out sort of like sand blasting. Some other features we saw were glacial striations, palm and shell fossils, and many kinds of rocks. Above the main viewing area, we followed a little path to a wooden tower that overlooked the city. It was a nice view, not spectacular, but we got some exercise for the day! There was also a museum that we went into for a few ...

Switzerland

Just a day trip to see this old city. Lots of brightly painted buildings with ornate oriel windows. Most of the windows were carved with scenes or fancy designs, sometimes painted, sometimes both. Lots of fountains and statues. Found a chocolate shop and pigged out.

... cloud and then minutes later emerged above it into brilliant sunshine. The whole train erupted in amazement at the incredible view before us. A stunning view of rocks, snow and ice as far as you could see. Once we got out it was all silent except for the wind whistling around us. Ice still lay on all the tables and floor and we were the only ones up there for about 30 minutes. Climbing around the walk ways we all just soaked in the views ...

Farewell, so long, la la la la la la la

... that every church has it to dip your finger into at the church entrance, but it is not taken lightly. The chocolate is so good, it wouldn't take much to convince you to slap your mother for a bit of it. As my uncle Jr. would say, "a calson quitado," it is some seriously good chocolate. But lest I make you drool without any Swiss chocolate at hand, I'll move on. Gotta confess that yesterday, at the top of the mountain I stopped for lunch and I broke my "no mean ...

Day 18 - Zurich

... river. In the city the prices for food were astronomical, double that of the Austrian and Bavarian cities. We were feeling a bit poor and disorientated so we settled for our first feed of Maccas for the trip. $27 for 2 burger meals. In the morning we went to an address that (according to our 6 year old Lonely Planet) housed a Lindt Factory with free chocy give aways. It must have moved. We left Zurich feeling pretty ****** off with the whole Zurich experience.

TP#34: Giving Thanks

... E headed out to go grocery shopping along with A&B who were on their way to school. Everybody was back at home by 4:00 pm. We did some homework and the kids watched some TV, then E surprised them with a "turkey dinner" that included turkey schnitzels, broccoli, rice and a nice salad. But as soon as everyone had eaten, A&B headed out to play handball (their usual Thursday evening activity), E headed out to her Thursday-night German class, and N and K ...

Lucerne

... it.

Notes on our way back from Lucerne: It is a lovely Old World city. The wooden bridge over the lake with its paintings of the history of Lucerne was really impressive and beautiful. Considering that it was done over 300 years ago is amazing. The Jesuit church, just a short walk from the end of the bridge, was just as impressive. The painted ceiling, the side altars, the main altar...WOW! It was glorious. Walking ...
