We've had a great day today, helped by sunshine and dryness, even though we were a bit cold at times! We took a train to Olsztynek, about 30km south. After ages yesterday trying to work out the buses, we found we could get a train from Olsztyn West, which is closer than where the buses go from, and takes about half the time. You can buy tickets for pre-designated prices at the ticket office, and then validate them in the machine when you use them, or you can buy tickets already validated on the platform. Although the machine is all in Polish, someone showed us how to buy more than one ticket at once!

Yesterday very successful day chasing ancestors - went tp szczytno (ortelsburg) ,Olsztyn ( Allenstein ), sadowo near biskupiec, alt keykuth in polish stare kiejkuty - there is supposed to be a secret CIA post there. We met a lovely couple over breakfast who told us how Poland had changed and how poor it used to be. Now it has a fabulous infra structure and is quite modern - only in some of the country towns can you see the remainder of some of the poverty. So we are off to discover some of our ancestors roots today.
