    Not Great, Not Bad

    Standard soulless city hotel
    Modest room
    Staff quite friendly and helpful
Location is not city centre, but there is a complimentary shuttle into the city, but no return - they want everyone to use a specific taxi service, for reasons one can only wonder at! But it is not far to walk, 20 minutes,, and people are willing to help with directions.

    Going south into Belgium

We left Liege this morning at 10:30 and made excellent time through two locks and 35 km to Huy. On the way the beautiful Belgian scenery was spoiled by derelict industrial facilities beside the river-- very unimpressive for about 20km of the whole trip. We did take some photos along the way to point out how really different this country is to the one we've just ...

... probably.) The photos will show just how big this lock was. After the fright we had about a week ago, we are both very careful and thorough with what we do. Not surprisingly the result is always good and is giving us a lot of confidence. Having crossed the border not just the topography has changed. Familiarity with English is much less, the navigation charts are very different and not as easy to use (Steve Jobs must have gotten his fetish for making things easy from a Dutch ...
