      Not Great, Not Bad

      Standard soulless city hotel
      Modest room
      Staff quite friendly and helpful
Location is not city centre, but there is a complimentary shuttle into the city, but no return - they want everyone to use a specific taxi service, for reasons one can only wonder at! But it is not far to walk, 20 minutes,, and people are willing to help with directions.

Only a couple of weeks ago I got informed about a volunteer position onboard the Africa Mercy, i.e. as a Media Liaison Officer. After having discussed this situation with my current employer, I decided to go for it! After the selection procedure, I got the official letter of acceptance: I would serve on the Africa Mercy from Jan - June. A new year, a new adventure!

I only had one month to get everything sorted ...

... as anti-tank barricades that were erected by the German Wehrmacht. After about 2 hours we found Monschau nestled at the top end of the Eifel ranges and walked through the narrow cobbled streets enjoying the architecture from the 11th century.

After a typical German lunch we headed for home via the mustard grinding factory and local ...

To and Huget both had to go to work, so we had a slow start and then drove to Holland! Maastricht, home of André Rieu! Had a lovely day walking around the two market squares, the food and clothes market stalls and then had lunch watching the people walk by. No churches, museums or art galleries today. Back home for more chatting and snails for dinner. To is truly a great ...

Fiona had lived with them and their children for a year through AFS in1997, and we had last seen them some years ago. Great to be welcomed like old friends and much catching up to do over To's wonderful ...
