    Not Great, Not Bad

    Standard soulless city hotel
    Modest room
    Staff quite friendly and helpful
Location is not city centre, but there is a complimentary shuttle into the city, but no return - they want everyone to use a specific taxi service, for reasons one can only wonder at! But it is not far to walk, 20 minutes,, and people are willing to help with directions.

... the cities like Cologne sound and feel French) and all in the 8th Century. One of Charlemagne's very few unsuccessful campaigns was against The Moors in Spain. I will raise this point again when I commence The Camino. Due to its location Charlemagne makes Aachen the centre of his empire and spent most of his winters here. His remains are interred here and although not proven many historians believe that he was born here.

Charlemagne is recocgnised as The Alexander The Great ...

Joining the weekend commuters, I climb onto a train Friday after work. Bags in hand, I can barely contain my excitement; I am bound for Maastricht in the Netherlands.

An hour later I am in a completely different place. If possible there are more bikes than in Flanders and I'm constantly leaping out of cyclists way.

The city is beautiful and has a ridiculously long history. I had no ...

... that! Next morning we see the public moorings about 100 yards downstream and move there before anybody spots that we're trespassing. Lunch out in Maastricht today, sitting outside under heaters - great 3 course set lunch. Weather freezing and wet. We've decided to move on in the morning so that there's no chance of cruising in the dark ...

... And that month is almost over... Tomorrow is D-day! I will be travelling to Brussels tomorrow evening, after having had my last injection against rabies. Tuesday I will have to wake up pretty early, the Thalys for Paris, Charles de Gaule airport, leaves at 7.10 AM! I will have to wait about two hours, followed by an Air France flight to Antananarivo (capital Madagascar Island). Upon arrival a Mercy Ships representative will be waiting for us, and bring ...

A day to view the historic town of Monschau(Henry)

Ignoring the typical grey sky of a North German autumn we headed out to the spectacular town of Monschau which was established about 1000 years ago. On the way we passed through Holland and Belgium to reach this small German town, an experience that is incomprehensible to an Australian mindset.

Small relics and reminders of World War ...
