Never had we expected the trip from Graz to Linz be so painful or long as it ended up being. We had deliberately chosen an early morning connection to ensure we had enough time in Linz and in hindsight this ensured that we actually arrived before nightfall! Our train was scheduled to leave at 8:35am and we were rushing to get out of the hotel on time and avoid having to wait 2 hours for the next connection. Hotel Daniel was one of the few hotels that didn't require payment before arrival or u...

... factory is cancelled. Absolutely crushed. That was something I was really looking forward to, but my german dad said he may see if he can get me in one time, I really hope so!!
And one last thing, the football Gods clearly love collingwood!!!! and we probably will win the premiership next year, yeah I think so, can't see any reason why not, superior ruck, superior midfield, superior coaching staff...... life is great!
We spend a little time touring Linz but then head to Mauthausen, a concentration camp, that is 20 minutes away. It is another cold & rainy day, appropriate for the subject matter but we are not dressed for the extended outdoor touring which makes it particularly uncomfortable.
An audioguide is provided which provides details in English on the life of prisoners. The written material, however, is only in German making ...
... few hours with Ryan who was staying at Krumlov House too and on the same shuttle bus.
Main square was nice. A few more old buildings and churches.
Saw a weird green floating disc shaped pontoon that was apparentlya gift from somewhere...
Ate Linzer torte in Linz which was probably the highlight of my 3 hours in Linz :)
... 8230;ooops! Oh well, when in Austria, do as the Austrians do, right?
The final day…we went out to get brunch, but the restaurant didn’t have eggs, so, in my infinite wisdom, instead of just getting some toast, I decided to get a linzertorte (knowing that we were also in search of apfelstrudel before Mary Katherine had to be at work at 2). Again, not one of my smarter decisions – I think all the food was starting to get ...
... first museum, we both decided we needed some food. We went to an Indian restaurant to reenergize. We then headed to the Technology museum, which was an experience, to say the least. I have never been to a museum that left quite so much up to the imagination. There was very little explanation and there were a lot of abstract, inexplicable contraptions – often there were meant to be hands on, but with little explanation of what exactly one was supposed to do.

But, the Austrian artist’s work conjure up a more ethereal,
mystical quality. They’re shrouded in mystery calling out their
ancestors and their progeny. When the viewer looks from
particular angles, they become diaphanous, almost soulless —
like the ring-wraiths, the Nazgul, from The Lord of the Rings ...
... and meet me, also considering that she then showed me to the hotel and then dashed off to a meeting. I was hungry and also needed to do laundry, so I entertained myself with those two tasks before meeting up with Noni and a friend of hers. We went to a Megamart (not literally, I'm using a Simpsons reference) or Costco for those in the know. There was the scene for the purchase of kangaroo steaks and a few other items. The kangaroo was very expensive but was a gift from Noni's ...
Linz, Upper Austria, Austria fionapurcell... they weren't open either, so after breakfast I ate nothing but a packet of Pringles. But it's not as bad as it sounds, because I wasn't feeling too good anyway and doubt I would have eaten very much at all anyway. This morning I ate a very huge breakfast, seeing as it was my last all-you-can-eat brekky, cleaned up my room, paid my rates and headed off for Linz. The train was very comfortable and not very full, so I had ...
Linz, Upper Austria, Austria noni_matt... a lovely ride, with the hills getting steeper and steeper leading down to the valley until I got to Schlongen where the river does a complete "S", cutting through the hills and leaving no room for a pathway. The only way forward was on a ferry, and as I waited the 45 minutes for it to appear a veritable United Nations of cyclists appeared; Dutch, Italian ...
