Second week in France
Beaumont-sur-Sarthe.
We arrived at this Municipal campsite just after 3pm. We had
used this site for a one night stopover a few years ago whilst visiting France
with our trailer tent and agreed that we would return for a longer period as
it’s such a great little site right on the river Sarthe with spotless
facilities, very quiet and a short walk into the village.

It's a f***ing Otter, It's a f***ing cat!
... boat, on a river. Needless to say it did not end well. The gist of what happened is that the cat jumped off the boat and into the river, puncturing the boat in the process. We first found out about this when the children rowed passed without the cat. It looked at first glance as if they had just abandoned it as it had somehow made it to the opposite side of the river to the campsite. Reunite with our Normandy friends
... only slightly bombed during the wars so is in quite good shape with many very old buildings - many with the old wood beams, etc.
Tonight the whole family will arrive for a big dinner -- it will be great to see everyone.
My french is getting a real work out.But we are managing just fine. More on that later. For now I think I will just take a rest.

Ben's day 1: 98km
Day 1 on the road: after an early start we were greeted in France with driving rain. This however failed to dent spirits. The day that followed was filled with a wrong turn (immediately from the port) more rain, beautiful Normandy landscapes and a taste of French cuisine in falaise. We settled in in the picturesque hamlet of mesnil-glais, around 4 pm to a apartment to ourselves with tv to watch the euro's and a fridge full of beers.
