Hood in the Wood

Our visit to the Ducal Palace which is on the site of the original Nottingham Castle was very good. The castle was built by the William the Conquerer in 1067. In 1194 King Richard I reclaimed the castle from his (evil) brother Prince John. The castle was handed over to Colonel Hutchison as spoils for his defeat of Charles I during the English …

We moved headquarters to Nottingham for a bit of archery practice and some womanising. According to Barry from The Knoll Guesthouse in Newport, there are 3 women for every man in Nottingham. Although, as Nottingham is a university town and most of the girls are in their 20's, I don't think there were too many wanting an older gentleman like myself …

AWACS instead of Vulcans

A travel blog entry by boomermaxwell

Years ago when we stayed with Beth and Barry in Coleby, we witnessed a flight of Vulcan bombers taking off - something very special at the time. The Vulcans are no more, but the RAF airfield is now used by AWACS. Two of these came in just before sunset, but so low and fast we had no time ...

Today was a beautiful day and always will be, it'll be Rob and Sarah's anniversary.
They had a magical wedding ceremony at Saint Peter and Saint Paul Parish of Oxton. We travelled by Rolls Royce to the Church and I was very proud to follow Sarah down the aisle.
We celebrated that afternoon and evening at Norwood Park, Southwell which was absolutely brilliant. We had a wonderful day and evening, congratultations and thank you Rob and ...

From Christmas eve we moved to live at Haywood, we had our own little living space and used it as our base until February 3rd.
We spent Christmas eve celebrating at Haywood with Aunty Caroline, Charlie, June, Tom and Will. And Emma, Joe and Polly. Dad and Sally made a lovely dinner. Some of us were really cool in patterned jumpers, we sang songs ringing bells and play charades. It ...

    Good Location & Facilities

The Park Inn is centrally located and has good facilities. The staff were friendly although it took some time to get someone to open the room safe which was locked when we booked in. It would get the extra star if it had a guest laundry. The nearest laundrette is Brights Laundrette which is a 12 minute walk away.
