Snow angels, snow balls & sleds

... We came across where the kids were sledding and talked to a chap who let Liam borrow his sled. He thought it was just the best thing ever. You could hire sleds so we decided to catch the later train and for €7.00 Liam sled his little heart out. Rob & I couldn't miss a chance either. Liam is such a dare devil, it doesn't take him long to get the hang of things, then he tries all different maneuvers not caring if he crashes. I asked him what was ...

After David and Jordan left we were both really keen to knuckle down and find some work before the snow arrived. Dean was able to land some full time work making use of his carpentry skills, while I have been doing some occasional babysitting for families in the valley. November is notorious for being the wettest month around here, but it didn't rain that much which meant we were still able go for walks and explore the place a little more. One day we ...

      Grandes Montet round 2!

A travel blog entry by nicolapollard on Dec 22, 2014

We were up early again today to get to the slopes before it got too cut up. We caught the bus with Chris and Gustaf, our friends from the hostel, and were doing our first run nice and early. Claire was happy to chill out on the blue slope so I went with Chris and Gustaf up the next gondola. It was so much nicer than yesterday! There was no ice yet and the runs were still nicely groomed. Chris had hired a go pro so he took some videos of me and Gustaf coming down. Hopefully they come ...

      First day out in Chamonix!

A travel blog entry by nicolapollard on Dec 20, 2014

We were up bright and early again this morning because Chamonix was finally opening today! We ended up having to wait ages for the bus but it didn't take long to get to the slope. We had to catch a massive gondola up to the ski fields and they crammed about 50 people inside! No room to move at all but it got us there in the end. We decided to start on a blue run to build up the confidence but it ended up being a really good run with nice snow so we stayed there for quite awhile. ...

      The Aiguille Du Midi, Chamonix!

Today we ticked something off everyone's bucket list (and if it's not on yours it should be!). We went to the top of the Aiguille Du Midi in Chamonix, France.

It is located 3842m above sea level, and the closest you can get to Mont Blanc without climbing. To get to the top, it is a combination of 2 gondolas and then a 42m elevator ride through rock. We caught the first gondola from the centre of town and we were packed in like sardines. There were over 60 people all standing ...
