... We could not travel into the Turkish part of the city since passports were required and ours were with the cruise ship until disembarkation in Barcelona. Our passenger cards were not sufficient ID. The pouring rain and short amount of time didn’t help the situation. (We befriended a fellow passenger, a Bolivian named Walter who did manage to get in and out the Turkish side because he had a citizenship card for Bolivia). But I did manage to ...
Nicosia, Cyprus brianporter... nicosia is the capitol for both the greek and turkish half of cyprus and is one of the last remaining divided cities in the world. after visiting berlin last month, it was kind of erie to actually experiance no mans land and checkpoints running through the middle of a funtioning city centre.
okay... there is more for me to type.....
ayia napa ruckus, limassol, .....
... entirely new world that is unexpected and a real sensory overload. I can't even describe the poverty on the Turkish side compared to the Greek side and I can't imagine what life must have been like all those years of war, genocide and then being cut off from the world. I can't imagine life there now for that matter. But for now it's just an interesting way to spend an afternoon scouring the last divided capital city in the world for insights into life ...
Nicosia, Cyprus atlpilot36Spent a week in a resort hotel in the city of Limmosal. Toured the entire island except for the Turkish portion on the top third of Cyprus.
Most of the tourist signs are in 1) Greek 2) Russian and last but not least 3) English.

The route for this stage was from the Top of the Old Baspinar Road to Hilarion Castle. This is F40-32 - Stage F2 on the Kyrenia Mountain Trail Map http://www.kyreniamountaintrail.org/kmt %20Stage%20Maps/stageF2.jpg Instead of meeting at Ivy's we met at Lemar at Karakum because our better halves were off on a shopping trip to Ikea (somewhere the other side of Mythenroyd, or so we were ...
Protaras/Paralimni, Cyprus kite.grenvald... of my childhood when with my parents and especially my dad who used to LOVE TRAVELING like me, would bring us to this village and even spend one or two nights at a certain restaurant for lunch or dinner.. The restaurant owner had one or two rooms to let, and my dad arranged each time we were up here, to spend the night in one, just to be next to the river and hear the ...
KAKOPETRIA , Nicosia, Cyprus greekcypriot... I checked into a moldy dump of a hotel (Didn't even have hot water) that was a bargain at around 65 bucks a night. Cyprus is very expensive. I got up the next day and wandered around town. Besides the people driving on the left side of the road, the town very much reminded me of towns in the states in the following ways: everyone has a car; public transportation is either non-existent or **** and most things are spread out all over the place. The one ...
Larnaka, Cyprus nomadic1... my old university friends. Finally, back to London to pick up whatever I left behind and return to New York to look for a job. Needless to say, this itinerary is flexible. I'll see what way the wind blows and will inevitably take a few side trips along the way. Some places may not be as interesting as I thought and others may grab my heart and demand I stay longer. Thankfully, I have the opportunity and freedom to make this journey my own.
