... more traditional food like baked cabbage with meat.
A route which I especially recommend, and which I do more or less once every 2 years, is a trail to Chata pri Zelenom Plese (literally: a house next to a green lake). It takes about 3 hours to get there, and the walk is not too taxing even for a beginner. It's a peaceful place with a lake, a cosy hostel and the mountains. There are a few trails than ...
... is no longer as cheap as it used to be.
The castle itself is a 1h30min guided visit. The tickets are cheap but the queue tends to move really slowly; normally you need to wait for a group to form, there are Slovakian, Polish, English, French and German speaking tours available. In reality, you join any of the group you wish, as you are going to get a booklet describig briefly the history of the castle ...
... right bank of the river was Slovakia, my ancestral homeland. I was somewhat disappointed that there was no down time for me to drive 30 minutes to the village in Slovakia where my great grandfather, Anton Chapla was born and raised until he emigrated to the United States before 1900. On the positive side, however, I did get to see the homes, the people on the river and on the bank of the river, so I was satisfied with getting as ...

... valley. I wanted to make it to the top of a ridge some 4km away, but the snow was so thick it made the going quite tough, and we modified out goal to make it to a rock about halfway up the ridge. The view from here was spectacular, watching the clouds come into the valley and work their way up over the lakes and our route. At one point we saw a group heading up to what seemed like a very sharp drop off, but their leader managed to figure out what was going on before it was too late ...

They hit it off which was a relief, you know how girls are! Any girls reading this, come on, lets not kidd ourselves! Erm, what did we do? Walked around for ages, saw the sights, sauntered into an old synagogue in the jewish quarter which in effect turned out to be a picture gallery. Alright none the less... Irish group 1, no 2 ...
Krakow, Southern Poland, Poland barber.timothy... Black Pond. This very deep lake (over 70m) was also filled with beautifully clear water, so blue it looked like Aquafresh mouthwash at the edges, but very dark in the middle. The view from this lake over Morskie Oko was superb as well. After watching some nutters heading for the high mountains and gathering clouds, we headed back down to Morksie Oko to have some lunch and finish our circumnavigation. About two-thirds of the way around, the heavens ...
Zakopane, Poland andrewmarnieThe Tatras, a natural frontier between Slovakia and Poland, dominate the northern part of Slovakia. They are part of the massive Karpaty Mountain span and form its highest mountain range. The Tatra Mountains, a relatively small area spreading 786 sq. km, 550 sq.km in Slovakia, are 78 km long and 17 km wide. Hiking paths, ranging from gentle to highly demanding, wind among spectacular peaks and rock walls.
The Tatra mountains, Slovakia hilde... we were approaching the base of the cloud deck. The second cable car ride was quite different - I called it the cable car into the abyss, as you could not see anything in front of you nor behind. It was really eerie. As you can imagine, once we reached the top, there was nothing to see, no spectacular views to be had, so we bought the postcards and took a look at what we had ...
