    ... the owner...the daughter had a very loud husky voice...and she had a service dog for her many ailments which she will gladly regale anyone with...and due to a family crisis, there were a great many visitors till quite late and their voices carried... Now, on the main drag, there was a bar...and many of the patrons drove noisy vehicles like trucks and Harley's... So we were all nestled and snug in our sleeping bags when what to our wondering ...

    It's our last day at the lake, and so begins our list of lasts. Tom, Leah & I went out fishing off Star Island this morning. We used up our last minnows, and caught our last fish (6 perch). We didn't fish long as we wanted to say good-bye to Grandpa & Grandma and help them get their boat out of the lake.

    Dad woke me with a phone call in the morning, wondering when we were going fishing. I hauled myself out of bed and found Tom brewing coffee in the kitchen, and the view of a fairly peaceful lake out the window. By the time we pulled the boat out of the harbor, mom and dad were just arriving at the fishing spot in Allen's Bay. We went out to meet them.

    ... re-route to seek the headwaters of the Mighty Mississippi River. We headed west but also north and landed just outside Walker, Minnesota for the night in a lovely campground. Minnesota is the state of 10,000 lakes according to most license plates - though I did see some newer looking ones proclaiming "critical habitat." And lakes there are; Walker is situated on a bay of Leech Lake. We will continue on tomorrow to seek the headwaters of the Mississippi.
