... First (Blues Brothers again) highlight is passing Joliet Prison and later Lincoln & Springfield. For quite a way the track follows the original Route 66 (a fairly forgotten 2 lane road now) and meanders through miles of corn fields that are as flat as a pancake. There is a nice observation carriage to watch the fields roll by! We also see quite a lot of abandoned house along the way.

Sam (who usually finished at either 15.45 or 16.45, depending on the parents' schedules) was having to work late so Lissa would swing by between picking the girls up from a class and taking them home. She let me know when she'd be along so that I could be standing outside ready. It was a lot sooner than expected so I was left juggling my hand luggage, suitcase and full cup of tea that was still too hot for me to drink out on the snowy street corner.
