Arctic Circle: Full Steam Ahead

... a Mosquito, a U2 spy plane hanging from the ceiling and a vivid history of Norsk aviation feats. It was pelting rain when the Nordkapp docked but a bus promptly transported one to the facility since it is more than a good walk. At least two other souls decided to pop along although I'm not certain what language they spoke. By facial expressions it was obvious that they were just as pleased with their choice. The bus came by and ...

Bodö-Moskenes, Lofootit

... panorama lounge. With the ship seeming about half full in terms of cabins (~350 people can travel without a cabin) there was plenty of free space to sit and enjoying the upcoming views, including in the double storey panorama lounge. I was in the sunshine on the outside part of deck 9 (all of the deck to the aft of the panorama lounge) for departure, which began with the freight hatches being closed. I noted that the ship only has passenger, freight and vehicle access on the port side ...

Starting off with a bang

... gorgeous. The locals tell us we have been very lucky with the weather we've had these past few weeks, as it is usually starting to get cooler and rainier by now. But we've had weather in the high 50's to high 60's everyday and it's only really rained once, and lightly sprinkled a couple times, but has always been beautiful for our many outdoor adventures. I'm very close to the ocean and fjords, but also within walking distance of some beautiful lakes and mountains ...

I have arrived!

... above me and we have been enjoying finding our way around together, although she seems to be sleeping this morning and doesn't hear me knocking on the door, as we were going to leave an hour ago to walk over to school. I guess I better go up and see if I can wake her up again now. I'll write again soon when there is more to say, and I will try to get some pictures before long also!

Arctic Circle!

... there and everything. That night we celebrated Joe's birthday with a cook out down by the beach. Great atmosphere and good company. The next day we left our little piece of artic paradise and headed on to our next adventure. We took the express boat to Kyringøy(spelling wrong) where we were taken through a museum and then shown the old traditional norwegian fishing boats. Then we walked to our next camping spot. When I ...

Northern Norway Excursion... to Arctic and back

... Flakes... gross!!! Not the best ever... but who cares! We were in Norway! So, we also went to see Oceans 13 (in English with Norwegian subtitle), which was fun. Then we took a night train to somewhere way up north. Wednesday morning we were in the ARCTIC! Yes, we passed the Arctic Circle earlier that day it was amazing. As soon as we got up North we had two lectures right off the bat. I had not slept more than 2 hours on the train ...

arctic

... we got back from our walk I attempted a shower, but because there were so many girls showering in one shower over the evening I really had an arctic temperature shower! It was so cold I could barely stand it. But, it got me clean and that was all that mattered! 9/13 The next morning we woke up at about 9 and had a few hours to kill before we had to go any where. Britt Inga, Bryanna and I went for a walk down on the river again, but ...

Crossing the Arctic Circle

... arm, look around, and one will say to the other, "Let's live here!" To which the other replies, "We'll rent to start." At the end of the Trollfjord in the cold and rain, we both looked at other and said, "Let's not live here." Moments like this help me to understand the enduring themes of Norwegian literature -- precipitation, violence, and herring. But seriously, we have been very much struck by the unique nature of the Norwegian ...

Pickled fish and Jarlsberg

... the proper Norwegian ones. They like their cheese over here though one, a kind of brown toffee sweet one was horrible. On the other hand, Jarlsberg is a delicious edam-like cheese with a light nutty flavour which I could eat all day (I'm happy to say they also sell it in the UK). Bodo town itself isn't actually a very attractive place having been virtually bombed flat during the war. A rather ugly concrete cathedral, grim docks and an ...
