First thing on the list today was a trip to Svolvaer - the biggest town on Lofoten. I had worked out that with the infrequent buses I could have about an hour there and still make it to the Viking festival in Borg - an hour in the other direction. Being Sunday, it wasn't the best time to look around as most things were closed, but I had a quick wander round the centre of town near the harbour and then sat for a bit in a bakery with a kanelbolle (cinnamon roll) and a coffee. I can't quite believe that I'm several hundred kilometres north of the arctic circle and it's hot enough for sunbathing. As I'm writing this it's 8:30pm, the sky is perfectly clear and I'm quite comfortable outside in shorts and a t-shirt. ... a beach with views of which we all took 20 million photos. Saw a couple of our people paddling in the water. It turned out to be a really warm day and some had even worn shorts – most were in short-sleeved T-shirts. But I had worn a long-sleeved skivvy. Bad mistake.

We went to another fishing village for lunch – which was smorgasbord. We found a table (everyone rushed to get tables by the window) ...

A wonderful road of ice

... showing about 12 Celsius and next the road turns into a cutting between two mountains and a mighty freezing wind would be blowing between the mountains and just about cut me into two. This road also has a number of extremely long tunnels and one such tunnel is over 5 miles long and as soon as you enter it heads down sharply under the sea and then comes back up onto the next island. Again it gets mighty cold while riding through these tunnels and I was extremely ...
