Crossing the Arctic Circle (Days 5 and 6)

... earlier). Nidaros Cathedral, built from 1070-1300ish, is the highlight of the town now, although there is also an excellent military museum next door as well.

The rest of the day was spent in the Panorama lounge, watching the scenery go by.

The next morning we were up early to be on deck as we crossed the Artic Circle. The globe ...

Viggja and Norway's Fjords

Hege and Ida welcomed us into their home with a stunning view of the fjord, the water and hills out the front window. We were able to watch the weather come and go across the water and the sun finally set late in the evening and the daylight continue on past midnight. The amount of daylength ...

cabin trip No. 3: Stakkslettbua

Nidaros Cathedral

This morning, it was a bite difficult to wake up at 7AM , and in same time the cloudy weather did not help me neither: I went to visit Trondheim (3rd city of Norway in inhabitant) and visited Nidaros Cathedral ( on the burial place of St Olav, the patron saint of Norway) many describe this ...

photo tour

Hi @all, this weekend I was taking part in a photo tour. We went close to the southern entry of the Trondheimsfjord and did quite a bunch of photos. We have been 12 people. And had a lot of fun taking pictures. It has been really great being with all of them. But know enough. Just enjoy the pictures. :) Saludos PS: there are in the beginning also a few pic's from Trondheim

Religious capital of Norway

After a few hours of driving we stopped here for lunch and a chance to stretch our legs. After lunch in a park, we had a wander of the town. There was not much to see or do and we decided against paying to go into the cathedral. Then it was time to get back on the bus and continue our drive north.

Blue sky at night...

The railway line starts up again in Andalsnes, so I spent a night there before getting the train to Trondheim. It was enough really as the town itself was quite nondescript, though the surroundings made up for it with mountains everywhere you looked. There was another cruise ship docked there, and it has to be said that I am something of a rarity in Norway - a young backpacker! I just think that it is too expensive to attract people who are fresh out of university ...

A Norwegian Christmas

I'm working right now for a couple in Norway who runs a farm. The farmer doesn't speak anything but his native language and his wife tries very hard to speak English, which I of course appreciate. The amount of work is a joke: there are, right now, only ten cows to be milked. And that's my job: to milk those ten cows. Sure, feeding and scraping the manure off the floor is also part of the job, but all together it still comes down to about three hours of work per day. It ...

... even if it meant washing with the cows. We were about the same latitude as Anchorage, Alaska so one could see why we would be eager to avoid showering outdoors. Anne is an architect and has spent a lot of time on construction sites. She has a great attitude towards getting things done. If she needs a place to stack boards she grabs a hammer and nails and makes a couple of saw horses. Kim liked being able to work on her own projects too. She made a hanging ...

Norway, The Beginning......

......After high school, I spent a year in Norway as an exchange student. It changed my life. All through my teenage years I was obsessed with other cultures....learning about foods, spiritual beliefs and daily life. I often pondered what would it be like to have been born somewhere else? What of my beliefs would be different, just by the location of my birth? Finally, after going to Norway I was able to experience that for myself. It was ...
