Historical Traveler Reviews of Norfolk Guest House B&B Guelph

Outstanding and affordable!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Spent two days there - Janet went out of her way to make a late breakfast for us when we arrived a little early the first day. Stay in the Coch Room if you can - it has an outstanding lower level that is perfect for sitting and talking, and the upper level bedroom is VERY comfortable and private! Two snaps for sure!

Relaxing and Well Appointed Home for the Business Traveler

from A TripAdvisor Member
Janet's hospitality at the Norfolk Guest House was like staying with a family member. In addition to the clean and well appointed furnishings, this B&B offers business travelers a quiet haven for catching up on emails (free wireless internet), reading a book in front of the fireplace, relaxing in a jetted bathtub, or just enjoying a homecooked gourmet breakfast. Coupled with a central and easily accessible location, I'd say you would be sorry if you did NOT stay at the Norfolk Guest House.

Weekend Delight

Unless you were born in the lovely old City of Guelph in Ontario, Canada or perhaps attended one of the many Universities in the area or even spent some time at the famous Homewood Health Clinic you might miss the extreme pleasure of staying at the Norfolk Guest House on Eramosa Road. Even walking in the area, viewing all the old, well maintained, classic homes that speak of another era is a treat. The Norfolk, however, is outside the box. The owner is a pretty, petite, gracious lady with a twinkle in her eye that betrays the time and energy she obviously puts into her work.

Upon our arrival on a mild winter day we first were struck by the gracious appearance of the lovely old home, the vestiges of the previous summer gardens were still in view inside the gated yard. We were booked into the Carriage House which sounded rather rustic but opened into a lovely sitting room that had been furnished with large pine cabinets to hold modern facilities like stereo, TV and VCR, overstuffed creamy couches, antique carpets in deep burgundy, pink and green with matching draperies and cushions to pull it all together. Into this charming mix our hostess has added candalabra, antique bric a brac and plants. A carpeted stairwell leads to a huge loft sleep area that could, if required, sleep six but central to the area is one of the prettiest, most comfortable queen-sized beds with a six inch deep duvet to keep you snuggly warm. In this area the owner continued her mix of old and new with shades of burgundy, candles for ambiance or brighter lights for reading and huge live plants in georgeous pots filling the corners and providing lots of chlorophyll for healthy sleeping.

Breakfast, of course, was something we were looking forward to but we were not prepared for the charm of the beautiful and spotless dining room, the twelve foot ceilings, heavy crystal, china and silverware. As though all this was not enough, the owner cooks and serves a delicious meal. Our Sunday breakfast was the lightest, fluffiest serving of waffles, fruit and whipped cream accompanied by sausage and bacon, orange juice and endless coffee.

Saving the best for last we have seldom met a more charming, knowledgeable and gracious hostess who is one of the few people who has the natural elan and the joie de vivre to make people feel special and at home away from home. You go girl!

Is it possible to have class, comfort and an exotic surrounding in Guelph?

from A TripAdvisor Member
Yes is the answer! If you stay at the Norfolk Guest House. The hostess was warm, welcoming and very accomodating. Breakfast choices were abundant and delicious. I found the rooms to be very clean with stunnig exotic decor. This place is a gem. I would definitely return and recommend it to anyone!

Awesome hospitality

Unbelievable experience!! Better than any hotel!! Worth the trip to Guelph... which, in a surprising way, has lots to offer, like shops, pubs, River Run Centre and lovely walking trails. Aside from the Guelph attractions, Janet has an incredible place. The decor was awesome!! The beauty of the place resonnates in the host. My wife and i thoroughly enjoyed the environment and the service. Will be making it an annual get-away!!

Very elegant house/rooms, very friendly host

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed for 3 days in the largest suite. Very nicely appointed rooms, comfortable bed. The B&B house itself is a well kept ~100 year old house, very convenient to downtown Guelph. Breakfasts were also very good. The Queen Suite is the most nicely appointed, it has quite ornate crown mouldings. They also have free wireless internet. The owner Janet was very helpful with selecting restaurants and points of interest. I would definitely stay there again, especially when one considers that all the chain hotels in Guelph area are mediocre to ratty, not to mention more expensive than the Norfolk.

Great place to stay

My overseas friends visiting Canada stayed at the Norfolk Guest House recently. The host was very friendly and helpful. The location is excellent - walking distance to downtown and the rooms are exceptionally decorated.

Could not be better..

We enjoyed staying at the Norfolk Guest House very much. I would recommend it to everyone. The room was lovely, spotlessly clean and really elegant. And we found the service and food to be just great too. Thanks, Janet for being so kind and friendly. You made us feel welcome and very comfortable. We would like to stay with you again when next we are in Guelph.

Terrible Hospitality

from A TripAdvisor Member
The owner is very unfriendly and uses the guest's washroom secretly.

Nice but poor hospitality

from AvidTravelers26
Norfolk Guest House is very clean, and has beautifully decorated rooms. The only reason I rate it average is because the hospitality and atmosphere at this B&B was less than welcoming.

Please also note that the bathrooms are shared for some rooms and even if you book the turkish room with the private bathroom, it is not ensuite - you must walk across the top floor to access it (it's beautiful though).
