... flooding everywhere we looked. Quite a few side roads were closed due to flooding, and even some state highways.

Today was fun - we visited the future birthplace of Capt. James T. Kirk, and also John Wayne's birthplace, in lovely Winterset, Iowa. Winterset is the county seat of Madison County, of the "Bridges of . . ." fame. We may go back through there to spend more time ...

... but no damage to the motorhome....but I don't think they faired as well. It is hard to believe all the corn and soy bean fields on every available inch both sides of the interstate and as far as you can see and if nothing was planted there was cattle grazing.

We finally got the MOTORHOME broken in...on this leg of the journey it turned 100,000 miles!!

There aren't many campgrounds ...

... of the longest days. By the time the kids finally got to sleep it was usually well after dark and I found the driving bloody hard, the roads being pretty good but all the road markings faded and with constant stream of oncoming traffic it had me cross eyed after an hour or two so couldn’t make the most of the silence. At least driving during the day we could see the corn!

It was a pleasure to be in Hoskins, near Wayne, for the Wayne County Republican Party's Lincoln-Reagan Forum.

They had the Hoskins Community Center all decorated up, and it looked great. The dinner was good, too!
