... time to chat with the locals they told us how lucky we were to be visiting at this time of the year, how much nicer it is when it is quiet. As one shopkeeper told us 'Now you can see the real Santorini’
We had one last stroll around the laneways overlooking the caldera, one last meal at the excellent Pelican cafe and one last ice cream from our favourite sweet shop and one last soak in the Jacuzzi.
Ah Santorini, thank you for sharing your beauty with us.
... the fellow said ‘OK – here is hot springs’ and he waved his had vaguely towards the shore’. ‘But how do we get to them?’ ‘You swim’. Yes, through the icy sea water to the shore. This was not part of the plan. The girls got into their swimming costume and Heath stripped off to his boxers and there followed much angst from all parties about whether to brave the conditions.
Of course, as the responsible father I ...
... for me.
Ancient Thira is well worth a visit. Perched impossibly on top of a mountain of pure rock it looks out to a view to forever. It’s not hard to imagine the reasoning behind setting a city up this high, even though it must have made life very challenging for the inhabitants. Wandering around the ancient laneways poking in and out of the ruins of houses thousands of years old made me wonder what life must have been life for the original inhabitants ...
... buildings with stunning caldera backdrops that you will need another memory card. It took us almost an hour to reach the village of Imerovigli, another town perched impossibly on the top of the cliffs. Although there was nothing open in this town except the supermarket, this allowed us to get the water we needed (but not the coffee stop we craved...)
We were told that the walk to Oia is two hours, but the literature (once we read it) said 3 hours. We took more than four ...
We arrived at Santorini on Friday and decided not to book any accommodation- all the previous ports have been full of people offering cheap rooms to everyone who gets off the ship. We arrived at about 3:30pm and guess what... it was ******* rain. We had to carry our bags off the ship in the rain and we had nowhere to go. Luckily we walked past about 4 different people selling rooms and found one in the city centre for only 40 euros per ...
Thíra, Greece leahymatth... at the winery and were completely blown away. Kristen didn´t want to leave and even grabbed a couple of real estate guides just to see if we could move there (the plan is in progress). We got a flight of 6 wines, bread, olives and cheese for 10 euros and were pleasantly surprised. After the winery, we couldn´t decide if we wanted to head down to some old ruins or find a beach. After discussion, the ...

From Rhodes we headed to the beautiful island of Santorini which sits about 900 meters above the sea. You have your choice of either taking the cable car, riding a donkey or climbing the 600 stairs. Of course, we choose the stairs! It took about twenty minutes, but then we made it up to the small ...
Santorini, Greece sarsandmatt... about her boyfriend. I did overhear her say 'Real World' at one point and I wondered if they were actually from that ridiculous show. The other two girls just sat and listened. They looked bored. We were so glad when they left. I was ready to get up and tell them to grow up! After dinner, we walked around and I bought some pistachio ice cream for dessert. 10 May 2001: This day was a very lazy day. We knew there wouldn't be a whole ...
