    ... capital cities? We opted to spend longer in each place, soaking up many different parts of each country, and in many cases travelling from the bottom to the top or the west to the east, which in the country the size of France can be like visiting several mini countries in one! Each department has its own feel, cuisine, scenery and even language in some cases. We wanted to take our time and really savour each country, not rush around like headless chickens.

    Ken drove the roller coaster drive back from Akaroa off Banks Peninsula, then the scenic drive back to Christchurch to return van, and get flight to Sydney. I was quite attached to van, but Ken says we are not having one. No problem with our overweight bags at Virgin check in, thanks. Easy flight to Sydney with lovely views of harbour bridge and Opera House. Some confusion with airport pick up, driver was expecting to take us to a different address, but ...
