Highest Point in Guangdong...

On Saturday I took a day trip to Luofu Mountain with some of my friends from Guangzhou. It was very nice to get out of the city and see some of "mountains" in the area. I say "mountains" because most of the Guangdong province is at or near sea level, and Luofu Mountain is the highest point in all of Guangdong at only 1296m. The mountain has been used by both Daoist and Buddhist practitioners for nearly 1000 years and is considered sacred by both faiths. It is a "national ...

Nov 28th - Qiqi goes to beach resort

Today Qiqi went to visit a beach resort, actually a future beach resort since this place is not finished yet. Most of the condos have already been sold out, even though the place is not finished yet.

It was only about 80km from downtown shenzhen but it took about 3 hrs to get there by bus! The road system is not yet built up in this area, so travel take a much longer time than we are used to in the US.

Day Trip to LongGang

... normal for this trip.

But before we left to come back, I noticed one of the tires was flat! So we had to find a local tire repair shop (see photos) and then begin our journey back.

The trip back took about 4hrs! due to the traffic and two accidents that we had to pass along the way.

But we arrived back safely, and have decided to return the rental car! it is still much easier to take taxi and public transportation than to try to drive on our own.

Huizhou life

I have never been in the South of China before..and this was a great opportunity for me to see with my eyes what all the Chinese people say, about how different are people from the north compared to the one from the south..and it is true. Huizhou is a lovely city with 360 degree panoramic view! Its Westlake has quite few interesting ...

Fear and Loathing in Hong Kong

... Another part - the masochistic part - wishes to give Hong Kong at least a chance - one more full day and night - to see if my feelings will settle. It doesn't help that I didn't manage to find any of the vegetarian restaurants that I written down. Walking around in an unfamiliar location, trying to find something vaguely edible without sleep and at night is extremely challenging. One best left till Morning. I do wish to ...

(Shekou, China) The Old Fisherman of Snake's Mouth

I was in Shekou when it was just starting to bloom. When the road from Shekou to Shenzhen were just padi fields and duck farms. Now there is only highrise. The fisherman in the tale "could" be someone I met on my several trips there... He had seen it all. When Shekou* was just a sleepy fishing village seemingly untouched by time at the southern tip of the land mass ...

Hong Kong nights

Flight OK but terminal 3 just chaotic. Seriously needs an update. Got train into Kowloon and then taxi to hotel. He couldn't get our cases in because he had an LPG tank in the boot so left them sticking our with the boot open Held by one elastic rope. I'm surprised Pat's smalls weren't scattered over Kowloon and ended up in the Ladies Market. Yes they do have a Ladies Market for Ladies. Hotel seems to have charged us for a third person in the ...

... mountain a good ways to the tram station. The tram has been in continous operation since 1888. It goes at a 45 degree angle up the mountain for 4,593 feet. You can see the track in this photo, and that light is another train coming at us. The quality of the photos was poor for several reasons. One, we were standing rather sitting, but in a great location right behind the driver. The seats were all full ...

Ping'an Adventure (Summer Break)

... Wednesday (27th): we headed out with some guides on a 'yeow walk' as they called it. I think what they meant was the Yeow people are the minority people here. Maybe I'm wrong. Up past View Point 1 to find more You Buy You Buy Yeow People. Finally past them and the morning was spent walking amongst hills and hills full of rice terraces. When we reached the women's ...
