... then made our way to our host's house. It was easily found. Upon ringing the doorbell, you instantly heard the 3 dogs barking. We came inside and were greeted by them all. Two dogs were hers and one belongs to the neighbor. They were Phoebe, Spoogy, and Nina. Our host was Karyn (I think I'm spelling it right).
We got our things settled in and then left with them to take the dogs on a long walk. There ...
Of course I needed to visit Luxembourg, hiding away there between France, Germany and Belgium. It is the fifith smallest country in the world. It is very hilly and surrounded by trees. The hostel is down at the bottom of a cliff, yay! The city of course is quite small, but it is surrounded by ruins and forest which makes it quite a unique city in amongst the hustle and crowds of all the other major cities. The people there speak French and their own language, Luxembourgish I suppose.
Luxembourg City, Luxembourg, Luxembourg tonkin... my parents worked for those years. It was pretty awesome to see where my dad was a firefighter so many years ago. Also it was weird because the base brought me back to my youth were I spent lots and lots of time on the base in Great Falls. It was really cool to have that feeling again. After we were done with Spangdhalem we meet up with Mo and went to Trier to walk around and look at ...
Luxembourg City, Luxembourg, Luxembourg drunkendidierAt last I finally arrive in Trier and meet up with Maureen and Richard. They are old friends of my parents and have agreed to put me up for the next few nights. They recognized me at once saying I look like my parents, of course I smiled and said you don't have to be mean. HAHA. Well after we got in the car we went to the top hill of Trier were we could see all ...
Trier, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany drunkendidier... train station with an arrival time in Salzburg, Austria of 16:35. A long train ride but part of the aura of travel.
Christiane overheard me saying something about how much I love Celery Salad. This is a German dish prepared from the large round root ball of the celery plant. What a surprise when I returned her great little fold up bike after a glorious day of biking than to discover she ...
... crockery, lots of old guns (these guys have loved to hunt for the last 600 years or so) and snuff boxes galore. Its one thing to be a packrat for 20 or 30 years - but if you can keep it up for 5 or 600 years, you can really take it to the next level. That is why they had 500 year old crossbows, lots of pistols from the 1700's, and jewellry from the 16th century.
The most impressive thing about Burg Elz were its rooms, decorated ...
... Luxembourg is kind of a cool place. My hostel is in a little valley surrounded by the remanents of a fortress, basically. The city used to be fortified, and is divided into the Haute Ville (the higher part that used to be inside the fortifications) and the Basse Ville (the lower part that was outside). Because of the half-ruined fortifications, and because the city is set in some very hilly terrain, there are some spectacular views here. During my day and a half in the city, I ...
Luxembourg City, Luxembourg, Luxembourg dianaleemiller... you think you seen it all, along comes Luxembourg City. Built on a rock bluff over a gorge with a river running through it, a very impressive sight. We wandered the city, through the Saturday market in the main square, through the narrow streets and out to a couple of bridges. The views were great, begging for a return in the summer in nicer weather. We then walked down to the lower part of the city to a spot where some restaurants and ...
Luxembourg City, Luxembourg, Luxembourg nedk... As I am riding I will think back on the past 7 weeks of riding through Northern Europe. Having ridden over 7500 kms, I have seen a lot of amazing countryside. I have had many experiences that I have never had before. I will remember the learning experiences. Realizing that it is better to arrive in a larger city, where I will be staying, with less than a full tank of gas. The same goes for ferry rides. The less fuel in the tank means the motorcycle is less top heavy ...
Luxembourg City, Luxembourg, Luxembourg cobra1899... every cup that was returned. I then realized that they did it to recycle the cups and so that they don't end up just thrown on the ground. We then went back to watching the game already half way through the second half. Spain then scored the first goal of the night (boo). We could barely see the tv, but we stayed the whole time. It was really fun to see the crowd all hyped up. Next thing we know, the game is over. I got to ...
