... Cockermouth where Wordsworth was born. Grasmere was our next stop to see Dove Cottage where he lived. Grasmere is a lovely village but it was overrun by tourists (especially of the retired variety!) By this time we had had enough of being tourists and finding somewhere to park the car so we continued to Windermere. Our "Cobbler's Cottage" is right in the heart of town and we were very pleased to have arrived before our neighbours drove ...

... this walk was breathtaking. We managed not to get lost, even though some directions were a bit vague. The first part of the walk brought us to a coffee shop over the river, and even though it was not too long since breakfast, we couldn't resist the opportunity to stop and enjoy the ambience. The whole walk took nearly three and a half hours, and it was wonderful. After a cool drink we ...

... gardens, before heading back to find The Westbourne, which was down towards the lake at Bowness. We settled ourselves into a very nice room before heading down the hill to look at the lake. As it was close to 5 o'clock we actually got to see the lake in sunshine. It was really lovely. The local Thai restaurant was our dinner venue, and we had a lovely meal before retiring to our comfortable room, having decided to book another night so we enjoy this gorgeous place ...
