Got to a downtown port location, thus able to WALK THRU OLD TOWN from 9 to 12:30.

In the Town Center is a huge cathedral, occupying two blocks, at least 15 stories high, filled with filigree and buttressed walls. It was built over 25 years beginning about 1350. Visited the Köln Dom the next morning and that was the only attraction we ended up visiting because it was scorching & we just went shopping instead. ... houses and gardens reflect that. Even the fields are tidy. No fences as each paddock is defined by small water channels. The low lying nature of the land is very obvious with much of the land 60% is below sea level. Our hotel is a little out of the city. Peter feels that the city is not the best place to be as the tolerance to drugs and prostitution makes the streets less than Wonderful at night in particular. Probably so, we will see when we visit red light area. ...
