Carnival in Cologne

After Trier, we headed to Cologne to see the cathedral. Cologne is a big city and we had a heck of time finding the parking and then lugging our stuff into the hotel--a little stressful :). Once we got settled, we headed straight to the cathedral. It's a bit like the grand canyon in that you can't appreciate just how big it is until you experience in person. After I sorted that out I went straight down to the Rhine for a beer. It's so hard to get used to the fact that you can drink on streets in Germany, people just walk around with bottles like it's normal. I see somebody who looks kind of like a cop and still hide the ...

... Therefore, no taxi needed. We donned our various bags and backpacks and headed for the hotel, not taking into account the size of the underground station. This proved to be a mistake as we went out the wrong exit and headed away from the direction we should have been going in. Okay, no big deal until the laces on my new hiking boots got caught up and I got a close up view of those cobblestone paths I so love! Yes, I fell over and have a skinned knee ...
