... and Joseph settled for curry pork tonkatsu and rice.

We reached Norzin's apartment by about 10pm. She had prepared a delicious tapioca pudding together with a bought cake and roasted soba (buckwheat) tea. This was despite her working all day and being slightly unwell. We had told her not to bother and to rest up instead but she did not listen.

Shigeki took us back to the Palace Hotel by 11am where we passed out for the night.

Nagano and Matsumoto

... museum(free entry with castle ticket) which had some decent samurai armour, swords and guns. I then had a wander around Matsumoto which like Nagano moves at a much slower pace than Tokyo and for that reason has a much more relaxed feel.

I then headed back to my hostel in Nagano and had a rest ahead of visiting mt fuji tomorrow and the 4 hour train journey.

... me onto the bus bound for kanbayashi onsen. Similarly to the previous two days the weather was miserable on the 40 minute bus ride, with clouds hanging low over the mountains that surround Nagano. This made me thankful that I had decided against visiting Mt Fuji today as it would have been totally immersed in cloud. ... That whole meal cost 610yen (AUD$6.70) between the both of us. So far, this is the cheapest meal that we have had short of the odd sandwich or so. Unfortunately, we had to stop at a supermarket and ended up with yet another box of chocolates and a packet of the mochi dessert. Hopefully, all the walking that we have been doing will negate what we are eating.

... broke and we could see the alps and Mt Tateyama surrounding us. It wasn't that cold, surprisingly. We then took a Tunnel Trolley bus across to the ropeway at Daikanbo. I had just bought my nice, hot sweet potato but on trying to take a photo of the arriving cable car, it fell out of its bag and went splat about 3m down.
