This weekend I was (easily) convinced to go on a jungle trekking trip to Sumatra - a giant jungle island in Indonesia.

To reinforce my badass status, allow me to clarify what the heck "trekking" is:

  • Trekking: (v.) extreme hiking, involving physical exertion way too much for my Dad to handle.
  • Jungle Trekking: (v.) climbing up steep hillsides by hoisting yourself up on protruding tree roots and swinging on hanging vines.

... sand boarding and after a couple of his attempt I tried unsuccessfully myself and was soon covered in black volcanic sand. We then drove forward to the Savannah a lush green area but was missing the cows. Further we made a hike through a mountain village and visited a waterfall. The early start now came to get me as we were driving towards Malang. I was glad I could switch my impossible bed by a nice gazebo private hut. Bromo was a superb experience! ...

... tiled, that’s a plus and we had a western style toilet, no flush you have to throw water down it from a big bucket. I shouted to Martin " there’s no sink, Martin we haven’t got a sink" The shower head had to be held because it didn’t fit on the wall bracket and there was no where to put anything. The room had a double bed, mozzie net and a sideboard. Oh we did have a fan that was something. The room was dark and depressing.

After two day spent with Mo's parents, which felt like we were on a family holiday; Mo and I didn't lay for food and we got ferried around ;). We visited Noosa Heads; another surfers seaside type down like Byron, only not quite as casual and laid back. On the second day we drove to Surfers Paradise to see what all the fuss was about. It was basically a town with a strip, promenade, shops, bars, surfers and restaurants...a.nice enough place with good surf. The time to wave Mo off ...
